Chapter Index

Shuang Yu had no intention of letting Yan Qianqian be finished off so quickly.

Rome wasn’t built in a day.

The resentment from two lifetimes couldn’t be resolved so easily.

“Forget it. After all, she’s a woman I once liked…”

Shuang Yu had just started speaking when a sharp pain shot through his waist.

He looked at Feng Yan, whose smile had turned somewhat dangerous, completely bewildered.

Why did this lunatic pinch me out of the blue?

“The drugging and slander, I can choose not to pursue. But my feelings have been hurt, and you have to take responsibility for that.”

    Shuang Yu coughed and said.

“You lunatic! You did this to me, and you still want me to compensate you?”

Yan Qianqian’s voice was as shrill as a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

“This must be a misunderstanding. Perhaps someone played a cruel joke. Since it’s not a very dignified matter, I hope everyone will do me a small favor and pretend you didn’t see anything.

As for the compensation for emotional distress, President Bai can come to my company to discuss it in detail at a later time. I’m sorry, Auntie, for spoiling your mood… I will personally apologize to you next time. May I take Qianqian and leave first?”

Sheng Xiaoran spoke with restraint, offering an apology. It was clear he wasn’t going to pursue the matter further.

After all, if things blew up, they would be the ones to suffer.

Li Yushu’s expression wasn’t good, but she and Sheng Xiaoran’s mother were best friends. Out of respect for their relationship, she couldn’t pursue the matter either.

With permission granted, Sheng Xiaoran didn’t linger. He swept Yan Qianqian up in a princess carry and left.

Yan Qianqian was filled with extreme unwillingness. She stared at Shuang Yu with seething hatred.

Sensing the chilling gaze, Shuang Yu calmly met her eyes. A moment later, his lips curled slightly into a contemptuous smile.

    Her heart skipped a beat.

She keenly sensed that Bai Shuangyu… had changed!

“I’m sorry to have made a fool of myself in front of everyone. I’m not feeling well, so please, make yourselves at home.”

Li Yushu spoke in a cool tone, dismissing her guests.

The tactful guests quickly took their leave. Shuang Yu also wanted to leave with them.

But the lunatic held him tightly. “My dear, where are you going? Didn’t you have something to tell me?”

His scalp tingled. He had no idea how he had managed to attract such a psycho.

Li Yushu’s inquisitive gaze shifted between the two of them.

She knew things weren’t that simple. It was likely that the male daughter-in-law her son had brought back was involved.

“Mom, can you let me handle this?”

Feng Yan lazily rested his chin on Shuang Yu’s shoulder, looking every bit the protective husband.

“You brat, you’re already siding with an outsider!”

Li Yushu was speechless, glaring at him resentfully.

“I learned it from Dad. Isn’t being fiercely protective of our own a fine family tradition?”

Feng Yan smiled nonchalantly, speaking with shameless audacity.

Truly… a son is no longer his mother’s once he’s grown!

Li Yushu’s expression was incredibly complicated, but she didn’t want to pursue the matter at the moment. Such a huge scandal had occurred in her favorite greenhouse; she was exhausted.

“Bring him home for dinner some other day.”

She gave Shuang Yu an indescribable look and turned to leave.

    Shuang Yu was baffled.

Wait, we barely know each other, why would I go to his house for dinner?

“Drag this woman away and interrogate her thoroughly. The hotel manager in charge is to be held accountable and fired. Tear down the greenhouse and rebuild it.”

As soon as Li Yushu left, Feng Yan gave a few brief orders and then left, dragging Shuang Yu with him.

Shuang Yu’s mind was in turmoil, like a million alpacas stampeding through it.

But the man held leverage over him, and he had no choice but to submit.

“What do you want!” he asked coldly once they were out of the greenhouse.

“I was bored and happened to capture some interesting footage. Care to appreciate it together?”

Feng Yan gave a wicked smile, slowly took out his phone, and played the video he had recorded.

In the greenhouse, Shuang Yu was crouching on the ground, stripping Yan Qianqian’s clothes.

    Shuang Yu was speechless.

“If this video were to be released, it would be quite spectacular, wouldn’t it?”

Feng Yan raised an eyebrow, his tone threatening.

He was furious. A dignified Ghost Messenger, being threatened by a mere human.

I wonder how many years of merit I’d lose if I killed him…

Shuang Yu remained silent, his face cold.

Feng Yan observed his overly calm expression, his interest in this little nouveau riche growing stronger.

Work had been slow recently, and he was worried about not having a toy to pass the time. And just like that, a little toy had delivered itself to his doorstep.

Taking advantage of his inattention, Shuang Yu lunged for the phone.

The latter seemed to have anticipated this and quickly raised his hand.

“I never thought you had such a girlish side. This kind of scene is my mom’s favorite in idol dramas.”

Feng Yan’s smile was incredibly punchable.

“Perhaps it’s not an idol drama, but… an action movie?”

Shuang Yu sneered. His hand changed direction mid-air, and he punched him in the face.

    Thump—

The tall man instantly fell to the ground.

Hah, you think I can’t handle a mere human?

Shuang Yu gave a humorless smile, crouched down to snatch the phone, and swiftly deleted the video.

[Lord Ghost Messenger, you cannot harm humans, or your three hundred years of merit will be for naught!]

Xiao Ai’s anxious voice sounded in his mind.

“Who said I was going to kill him?”

Shuang Yu shrugged innocently. He placed his cool fingertips on Feng Yan’s forehead and erased his memories of the last two hours.

Lunatics were troublesome. He wanted nothing to do with him.

He stood up, patted the non-existent dust off his clothes, and calmly walked away.

Meanwhile, after getting into the car, Sheng Xiaoran carefully questioned Yan Qianqian about the situation.

Having lived two lives, Yan Qianqian certainly wouldn’t be so careless as to reveal her true colors.

“President Sheng, do you not believe me…”

She whimpered, her tears falling. Her desperate and helpless appearance made Sheng Xiaoran’s heart ache.

“Don’t cry. It’s not that I don’t believe you, but I need to understand what happened to help you, don’t I?”

“Thank you for believing me… I don’t know why it turned out like this. There were fewer people near the greenhouse, so I was nearby talking to the caregiver on the phone. Then I heard a man’s panting and a woman’s cry for help from inside the greenhouse.

I was afraid the woman was in danger, so I wanted to go in and help. But as soon as I stepped into the greenhouse, I was knocked out. When I woke up, it was like that… I’m really not lying, President Sheng. The back of my neck still hurts.”

Yan Qianqian wept as she spoke, pulling back her long hair to show him her neck.

If she had been attacked from behind and had been unconscious for so long, the attacker must have struck hard, which would surely have left a mark.

But her neck was smooth, with no swelling or bruising at all. There was no sign of an attack.

Although Sheng Xiaoran had his doubts, he didn’t dwell on them. Compared to such insignificant evidence, he was naturally more willing to believe Yan Qianqian’s words.

“I’ll ask Feng Yan for the surveillance footage and for that woman later. But you should be mentally prepared; we might not be able to get them.”

Sheng Xiaoran frowned as he spoke. He didn’t want to confront Feng Yan unless it was absolutely necessary.

After all, if that psycho Feng Yan got involved, things would become difficult.

From the looks of it just now, Feng Yan seemed to have taken Bai Shuangyu as his new toy. Until he lost interest, he probably wouldn’t be able to make a move against Bai Shuangyu.

At the mention of Feng Yan, Yan Qianqian was filled with extreme unwillingness. She played the victim and began to sow discord. “How did those two meet? They seem to have an unusual relationship. Will I be targeted by Young Master Feng in the future?”

“I know Feng Yan fairly well. He’s not interested in things that don’t concern him. As long as you don’t provoke him, he won’t bother to act,” Sheng Xiaoran replied with a frown.

His words made Yan Qianqian feel even more uncomfortable. It felt like he was implying that as long as she didn’t cause trouble for him, he wouldn’t actively come after her.

After all, a small character like her wasn’t even on his radar.
