Chapter Index

Seeing Xiao Fang’s shining eyes, President Fei seemed to read his mind and raised a hand to gently lift the head of Xiao Fang’s side of the bed. The room had sufficient air conditioning, so there was no need to worry about him catching a cold.

Xiao Fang reached out his hands and took the tiny Da Bao from the nurse. The little monkey-like head was flushed red, his long, curly eyelashes were thick and dense, and his pink little mouth was pouting, with a string of drool at the corner. He was sleeping soundly. Xiao Fang’s heart nearly melted into a puddle.

As a new father, Xiao Fang’s posture for holding the baby had numerous mistakes. The nurse patiently instructed him from the side, and Fei Xiangnan listened attentively as well, even asking for clarification several times on things he didn’t understand. By the time he learned how to hold his son, Xiao Fang’s arms were already sore, so he had to let Fei Xiangnan take over.

Just a few months ago, Xiao Fang would have found it hard to imagine such a ruthless character holding a baby so carefully, his eyes filled with an unbreakable warmth and tenderness. Lying in bed, Xiao Fang felt incredibly happy. He felt like a new member had been added to his world. From now on, they could face any problem together, and Da Bao would be protected by the two of them.

“Grandpa said he wants to name Da Bao,” Xiao Fang said. The old man always wanted to leave something of himself on his great-grandson. Since Da Bao’s surname was Fei, it wasn’t a problem for the mother’s family to choose the name, but it was a bit of an issue in the Fei Family.

Unexpectedly, Fei Xiangnan agreed without even frowning. After a thought, he added, “Don’t worry about whether the Main Family is satisfied or not. It’s my decision. Besides Grandpa, they can’t say anything.”

As expected of my mighty and domineering President Fei!

Xiao Fang smiled with satisfaction and gave President Fei a look with his eyes. The straightforward President Fei didn’t understand the tenderness in Xiao Fang’s eyes and instead frowned at him.

“Hungry? Bear with it for a while. The doctor said you can only eat tomorrow.” President Fei couldn’t help but associate this with Xiao Fang’s foodie nature. It was terrifying!

Xiao Fang looked reproachfully at this unromantic man. It was a rare moment for him, but… sigh!

Xiao Fang shook his head coquettishly and continued to look at Fei Xiangnan with loving eyes. Surely he should understand a little now!

“No desserts either! Not even water.” President Fei, thinking he understood everything, said cleverly.

Xiao Fang was petrified. It seemed that all these subtle hints were useless on President Fei and only reinforced his image as a foodie.

Resigned, he pointed to his own lips. President Fei was stunned for three seconds, and a blush gradually crept up his ears. He turned around, placed his son in the soft cradle beside them, and then coughed heavily.

He lectured, “You’re a father now, yet you’re still so immature.”

And so, President Fei, who considered Xiao Fang immature, leaned in within three seconds. A room full of warmth, leaving only Da Bao in the cradle, staring blankly at the world with wide eyes.

“I can’t believe he actually gave birth to a son. His luck is really good,” Zhang Yuliu said, biting her freshly manicured nails, almost screaming. Why did all the good things happen to Fei Xiangnan, while she was married to a good-for-nothing like Fei Tao? Tomorrow, Old Master Fei was even making them go see Xiao Fang together. She didn’t want to go at all; she didn’t want to see Xiao Fang’s smug face one bit.

“What are you angry about? If we have to go, we’ll go. What can a newborn baby do?” Fei Tao wasn’t worried at all. He had been at home for the past few months, doing nothing but playing games. His eyes hadn’t left the screen for a moment.

This made Zhang Yuliu’s stomach churn with anger, but she couldn’t vent it. She knew her husband; he was a brainless thing. He was good at nothing but yelling at her. If they really fought, she wouldn’t be able to fight back. Besides, her family was of humble origins. What man didn’t like a submissive wife?

“Honey, I’m just thinking that with a son, Fei Xiangnan’s position in the family will be even more consolidated. Then we…” Zhang Yuliu deliberately trailed off, wanting to provoke Fei Tao.

In a moment of distraction, Fei Tao was killed by the opponent in his game. He angrily threw his mouse. “What’s the point of you saying all this now? If you want to blame someone, blame your own useless belly. Damn it, it’s so unlucky to even talk about it. Stop bothering me. I hate it when you women are so long-winded and scheming. Who knows how much poison is in your hearts, waiting to harm people!” Fei Tao had no patience and started shooing her away.

Zhang Yuliu suppressed the hatred in her heart and left the room in her high heels.

Over here, Liu Qian was also extremely unhappy, but she had no one to complain to. Her daughter had evening self-study classes, and after that, she went to other tutoring sessions. In short, she had no time to chat with a lonely housewife like her. She stomped her foot in frustration, but there was nothing she could do. Just as she was about to go find her sister-in-law to chat, she remembered her daughter’s words.

“Mom, talk less with Auntie. You’re too straightforward to compete with her schemes. You should have understood from that last incident. She has a heart of a viper. Fei Xiangnan is no good. As his rival, she might not be our ally. She might even be trying to drag us down with her!”

    That’s right!

Liu Qian’s hand on the doorknob relaxed. She didn’t trust anyone, but she had to trust her daughter. She was the only one who wouldn’t harm her.

Knock, knock, knock! Just as Liu Qian made her decision, there was a knock on her door.

“Sister-in-law! It’s me, Yuliu. You’re not asleep yet, are you? Let’s chat.”

Liu Qian’s expression changed. She immediately lay down quietly on the bed, calmed her emotions, and then said in a loud voice, “Yuliu, I had some calming soup today, so I’ve already lain down. Let’s talk tomorrow if there’s anything.”

A look of doubt flashed in Zhang Yuliu’s eyes, but she quickly smiled and said, “Then rest well, sister-in-law. I won’t disturb you.”

With that, she left the doorway. It seemed that this branch was starting to doubt her. She would have to handle it properly another day!

That night, as peacefully as the small family in the hospital slept, the Main Family was just as anxious. The next morning, both women had to apply several layers of foundation to cover the dark circles under their eyes from a sleepless night.

At ten in the morning, the Fei family officially met at the hospital.

Old Master Fei’s first concern was, of course, his great-grandson. Even though his features were still wrinkled, the sycophants around him managed to point out which parts resembled him, leaving Xiao Fang stunned. If he weren’t still lying in bed, he would have suspected that he wasn’t the one who gave birth.

“Oh my, why do I feel like this child’s nose looks a bit like Fei Tao’s? Look at that little upturned nose.” Zhang Yuliu’s sharp laughter tried to steer the topic toward her husband.

The whole family actually thought she had a point. Even Old Master Fei was so dazed by the praise that he didn’t know what was what anymore.

“I gave birth to the child. It’s one thing for him to resemble Grandpa, but how could he resemble his younger uncle? Auntie’s words are truly strange.” Fei Xiangnan never gave anyone face and said whatever was on his mind. Xiao Fang secretly snickered, pretending to be in a daze from the pregnancy, as if he knew nothing.

Zhang Yuliu was speechless. Old Master Fei also came to his senses and frowned, “That’s indeed inappropriate. The child’s father is right here. Yuliu, watch your words!”

Fei Tao glared fiercely at his wife, this brainless thing.

Zhang Yuliu’s face turned beet red, but no one was willing to speak up for her. She could only laugh to herself, “Oh dear, it’s my fault for not speaking properly. Please don’t mind me, Xiangnan and nephew’s spouse!”

“It’s alright, it’s alright. Auntie was just talking nonsense. I usually pretend I didn’t hear it. Grandpa, please sit down. It must be tiring to stand while holding Da Bao,” Xiao Fang said, gesturing.

The nurse took the baby, and the whole family sat down neatly on the sofa.

Old Master Fei spoke first, “Xiao Fang, you’ve worked hard. You’ve added an important member to the Fei Family!”

“Grandpa, what are you saying? That’s too formal. I married Xiangnan, so of course, I want to give him a complete little family. When you say I’ve worked hard, it makes it sound like I’m just completing a task. This is what I should do,” Xiao Fang said, naturally including himself as part of the Fei family.

Old Master Fei looked at Xiao Fang with deep meaning. This child was calm in the face of crisis and had some courage. He quite liked him. Although he was an entertainment star, he was capable enough, so it wasn’t a shortcoming. The key was that his grandson was actually willing to settle down for this person, which was not a bad thing.

Zhang Yuliu and Liu Qian were forcing their smiles. They couldn’t say anything negative here; they just hoped Xiao Fang wouldn’t call them out.

“Little Auntie,” Xiao Fang called out sweetly to Zhang Yuliu. Zhang Yuliu shivered, goosebumps nearly popping out from Xiao Fang’s call.

“Ah, what is it, Xiao Fang?” Zhang Yuliu forced a smile in front of the old master.

“Even the younger generation like me has had a child. You can’t be stingy anymore. Hurry up and give me a little cousin. It would be so nice to have them go to kindergarten with my Da Bao. Two little kids would be so cute, don’t you think?” Xiao Fang smiled brightly. Anyone who didn’t know better would think this nephew’s spouse was being very considerate of his aunt.

Ignoring Zhang Yuliu’s ugly expression, President Fei chimed in with his wife, “Yes, having a little cousin would be great. It’s nice for the Fei family to be lively.”

Lively my ass! If you, Fei Xiangnan, like lively, I’ll eat dirt on the spot! Everyone thought in unison.

The most uncomfortable person was, of course, the one being targeted. Giving birth was already a sore spot for Zhang Yuliu, and now it was being peeled back layer by layer, striking at her vulnerability.

Xiao Fang felt no guilt saying this. Yesterday, he and Fei Xiangnan had concluded that Liu Qian wasn’t that clever. Some things wouldn’t have gone so smoothly without her fanning the flames and pulling strings. So, Xiao Fang didn’t hold back his words and deliberately put on this show with his husband.

This also happened to be a sore spot for the old master. If he had to say who he doted on the most, he had spent the first half of his life doting on this youngest son. How could he not be happy to see his youngest son have an heir? But alas…

Zhang Yuliu received a look from her father-in-law that said, “you’re a disappointment.” It was sheer torture for her.

“Tsk!” Her own husband also clicked his tongue lightly.

Zhang Yuliu’s mind was completely consumed by anger. Xiao Fang, Fei Xiangnan!

She looked up, and this demonic couple was smiling at her, as if they had long seen through her facade. Zhang Yuliu quickly lowered her head, trying to minimize her presence as much as possible.

The Fei family had a small rule: a child must be named only after their first full month. Before that, a nickname would be used. Xiao Fang and Fei Xiangnan decided on the simple and easy-to-understand name Da Bao. If there were more children in the future, they would follow suit. When Old Master Fei mentioned naming the baby, Fei Xiangnan directly stated that Xiao Fang’s grandfather would do it and that they would bring him over when the baby reached his full month.

This made the always-authoritative Old Master Fei stare at his eldest grandson for a good while, but he ultimately lost the battle of endurance.

Before leaving, he grumbled, “He can name him if he wants to. If I’m not satisfied, I’ll still be the one to name him! Let’s see what he’s capable of!” His tone was like that of a playful old man.

After the Fei family left, Xiao Fang finally relaxed, his eyes shining as he looked at Fei Xiangnan. “Does this mean Grandpa has tacitly agreed to me being with you forever?”

“You were so firm last time, he had to agree whether he wanted to or not. After all, there have been exceptions before.” President Fei said this, but he was still very happy in his heart. He kissed Xiao Fang’s forehead. Now, his mind was completely focused on when to go public with Xiao Fang. In the future, he would protect his partner openly and honorably!
