Chapter 22 – Green With Envy
Having suffered a major public embarrassment online, CEO Yan turned off the live stream one minute before it ended. If Lin Ganzhi asked when he got back, he would just say he didn’t finish watching it, as a punishment!
That evening, when Yan Shengping went downstairs for a glass of water, he ran into Uncle Yan, who had just turned off the television. Uncle Yan smiled, his eyes filled more with emotion. “I used to worry that Mr. Yan would have a hard time finding the right person. I never thought this misfortune would turn into a blessing. That child, Ganzhi, seems to truly love you. He even made you a heart out of coconuts while eating.”
Yan Shengping, who had just managed to forget his shame: …
In the middle of the night, Lin Ganzhi groggily crawled out of the tent. He had drunk too much coconut water in the evening and woke up bursting.
He found a secluded spot, pulled down his tropical shorts to relieve himself, his little pink-haired head drooping from sleepiness.
Suddenly, he sensed someone approaching. Lin Ganzhi forced his eyes open and glanced to the side. Before he could even see the person’s face clearly, he felt their disgusted gaze.
“Lin Ganzhi, did you target Jingyi out of shame and anger because you couldn’t have me?”
Lin Ganzhi paused. He heard the words, but he couldn’t understand how they fit together.
Just what did the original owner see in this guy? He’s not as hot as Yan Shengping, and hanging out with that Feigned Innocent has made his train of thought a nuisance to others.
“You don’t still think I like you, do you?” Lin Ganzhi asked, a look of horror on his face.
Luan Yuanzhou snorted coldly, the disgust in his eyes only intensifying. “Am I blind? Did I not see everything you did on the set back then?”
Hiss—
He’d forgotten about his prior record.
“I just made a mistake that most men make,” Lin Ganzhi said with a profound expression.
“Taking by force?”
“No, being young and blind,” Lin Ganzhi replied, shaking his head.
“You!” Luan Yuanzhou was so angry his fists clenched. It had only been a month, how had Lin Ganzhi become so sharp-tongued?
Lin Ganzhi lifted his head, the sea breeze ruffling his fluffy hair. His chubby-cheeked face was puffed up, looking very serious. “I’m a taken man now. He’s a delicate little rose. Don’t entertain such ridiculous ideas in the future. My little rose will get upset and fall ill if he hears about it!”
“Damn it! When have I ever had improper thoughts about you!” Luan Yuanzhou gritted out. “Then tell me, if you’ve already moved on, why are you still targeting Jingyi?”
Because he hurt my boss, you idiot!
However, judging by their combined strength, Luan Yuanzhou and Zhong Jingyi could easily take them both out with a little effort. Lin Ganzhi would never sell out his boss.
“Because I hate goody-two-shoes. As soon as he talks to me, I lose my mind. The kind of crazy I can’t control,” Lin Ganzhi said with a serious face.
“You! That’s just Jingyi’s personality. He’s caring towards everyone. If you weren’t a carbon-based lifeform, do you think Jingyi would even bother with you?” Luan Yuanzhou seethed.
??? A carbon-based lifeform?
This was the first time Lin Ganzhi realized he could be targeted by the Black Lotus for such an advantage.
“Well, that’s just my personality, too. The moment a goody-two-shoes shows me any concern, I go crazy and say whatever comes to mind. You’ve seen what I’m like when I lose it, right?” Lin Ganzhi asked with a smile.
Luan Yuanzhou was instantly hit with the urge to retreat. The memory of Lin Ganzhi’s crazed confession on the film set flashed through his mind, and he shivered.
Luan Yuanzhou clenched his fists to appear calm. “Fine. Let’s make a deal. Jingyi won’t talk to you, and you won’t target Jingyi.”
That was exactly what he wanted!
Lin Ganzhi was very satisfied with this deal and nodded his pink-haired head eagerly.
The brief meeting came to an end. Just as Luan Yuanzhou turned to leave, Lin Ganzhi called out from a short distance away.
“If you were in my shoes and you replayed what Zhong Jingyi said to me in your head, would you still think it was all my fault?”
Luan Yuanzhou froze. When he turned back, Lin Ganzhi was already far away.
Although he was verbally unwilling to admit it, this version of Lin Ganzhi was truly different from the one on set. He seemed cleaner, and more importantly, his eyes no longer held any trace of affection for him. He was as cold as if he were looking at a stranger.
Yan Shengping did not sleep well that night. After the live stream ended, his trusted subordinates sent a flood of congratulatory messages.
[CEO Yan and Madam’s love is truly the envy of others. I’d rather be a pair of mandarin ducks than an immortal!]
[CEO Yan, my daughter is a huge shipper of you and Madam’s CP. Next time we have a meeting, could you help me get an autograph from Madam? Consider it my bonus for the last research project?]
[CEO Yan, my wife brought a lot of local specialties from the countryside. Would Madam like some? I can secretly mail them over. My wife is so envious of your love story now!]
[CEO Yan, Madam is so sweet, ahhhhh! He’s so cute~]
[CEO Yan, you were the one sending gifts today, weren’t you?]
Yan Shengping turned off his phone, a once-and-for-all solution.
Why had he never seen these people be so proactive during meetings?
Was his marital life that interesting to them?!
The next morning at eight o’clock, the live stream started on time. As soon as it began, ten million viewers flooded in, and the number was still growing.
Just as Lin Ganzhi crawled out of the tent, a tuft of pink hair sticking straight up, the sky became overcast with dark clouds. The weather on the island was notoriously fickle. Less than five minutes later, a torrential downpour began, and fierce winds swept across the entire island. The waves surged a meter high.
A string of curses erupted from the group.
The frame of Lin Ganzhi’s tent was snapped by the strong wind. In the downpour, Lin Ganzhi quickly gathered the tent’s remains and shouted against the wind and waves, “Get in, I’ll shield you from the rain! Wahhhhh!”
The moment Lin Ganzhi tried to hold up the tent, the wind behind him pushed him forward. He looked like a broken rag doll, small and helpless. One of his slippers was even blown away.
Wenren Yi grabbed Que Jin with one hand and pulled Lin Ganzhi back with the other. She draped the tattered tent over their heads, struggling to shelter the two weaklings in the storm.
The other two teams were in even worse shape. They could only use their sleeping bags as cover and rush into the rainforest for shelter. A large tear was ripped in Qi Lan’s long skirt.
And the bullet comments…
[I know I shouldn’t, but Ganzhi really looks like a weakling. What a slap in the face!]
[One second: Wow, Lin Ganzhi is so cool! The next second: Hahahahahaha, what a weakling.]
[Wenren is so cool. Sister, give me a chance!!!]
[Ganzhi looks so delicate in Wenren’s arms~~]
Yan Shengping was sipping his porridge, but his eyes were unconsciously drawn to the image of Lin Ganzhi huddled in Wenren’s arms on the television screen.
“Mr. Yan,” Uncle Yan called out.
Yan Shengping lifted his handsome eyes.
“Why are you sprinkling green onions into your bowl?” Uncle Yan’s expression was indescribable.
Yan Shengping looked down. The white porridge was now flecked with green.
…
“The porridge is green,” he stated. “Not me.”
Uncle Yan nodded with a complicated look.
What a master of insinuation.
