Chapter Index

In the luxurious room, Shuang Yu was massaging Zuo Fei. Two years had passed, and he was still deep in slumber, unresponsive to the outside world. Shuang Yu had learned from Xiao Ai long ago that the hope of Zuo Fei waking up was incredibly slim. Even the original host had known this, which was why his wishes hadn’t included Zuo Fei.

Although the Vicious Ghost’s resentment had long since dissipated, Shuang Yu hadn’t given up on Zuo Fei. Instead, he had brought him to the Imperial Palace to be well cared for. He made time every day to visit, massaging his body and chattering about the day’s events.

“The baby is being very naughty. He snatched Shi Heng’s Imperial Seal and Shi Heng chased him for two whole buildings. I feel like I’m raising two dogs, and each one is more of a dog than the last…”

After speaking, Shuang Yu couldn’t help but laugh.

A moment later, he sighed softly. “Your son is very happy now, and I want you to be happy too… So please, open your eyes. You’re the Empress’s father now, the Imperial Father-in-law. If you keep lying here, you won’t be able to enjoy any of the benefits…”

The person on the bed remained completely still.

The sound of a door opening made Shuang Yu turn his head. Shi Heng quickly pushed his way in, furtively closing the door behind him and pressing a finger to his lips in a hushing gesture.

“What are you doing here? Are you done with your official duties?”

Shuang Yu asked, puzzled as he stood up.

The moment he turned his head, the fingers on Zuo Fei’s right hand twitched slightly. At the same time, the voices of the guards echoed from outside the door.

“Your Majesty, Your Majesty, where are you? Stop hiding, you still have many documents to review today!”

Shuang Yu glared at him. This guy had skipped work again!

Shi Heng gave a sheepish smile, strode over, and pulled him into an embrace, taking a deep, almost perverted sniff of his scent.

“Don’t move, wifey. Let me catch my breath. I’m exhausted.”

Having just ascended the throne, there were indeed many tedious matters to attend to. Every day, Shi Heng would still be gone when Shuang Yu went to bed. When he woke up, Shi Heng would have already left for work.

Noticing the dark circles under his eyes, Shuang Yu felt a pang of heartache and patted his back. “Do you want to go back and rest for a while?”

“It’s fine. Just having you by my side recharges me. Is there still no reaction from Father?”

Shi Heng shook his head and looked at Zuo Fei on the large bed.

“Same as always. I’m used to it,” Shuang Yu sighed helplessly.

A dark light flashed in Shi Heng’s eyes, and he smiled roguishly. “Wifey, I’ve heard that external stimulation can wake up people in a vegetative state. Want to give it a try?”

    Stimulation? How?

Shuang Yu was initially baffled, but in the next second, Shi Heng picked him up and strode toward the large bed.

    Damn it, this mad dog!

Realizing what he was about to do, Shuang Yu’s pupils shrank, and he began to struggle frantically.

“Wifey, I miss you… Wifey, you smell so good…”

Shi Heng, that dog, rained one fiery kiss after another upon him.

They had both lost their glands and were no longer affected by pheromones. Yet every time he touched him, Shuang Yu would tremble all over, unable to resist.

    “You… you lunatic…”

His cheeks flushed a deep red as he cursed intermittently, raising a hand to pound on Shi Heng’s chest. Touching his scorching skin only made his heart race, and he couldn’t help but curse himself internally for being such a sucker for looks and for loving that body of his.

“Go… go back to our room to do it… Not here!”

“Let’s go to the bathroom. I can’t hold it in anymore!”

There was no way Shi Heng would give up the prize that was already at his lips. Heaven knew it had been almost a week since he’d gotten to be close with his wife.

Just as the scene was about to spiral out of control, Zuo Fei, who had woken up at some point, had no choice but to let out an awkward sound. “Ahem…”

Both their bodies froze instantly, and they turned their heads in unison.

“Hey, son, son-in-law. You two… are quite passionate.”

Zuo Fei greeted them with a brilliant smile.

    What the hell.

    What the hell.

    What the hell.

The expressions on their faces were as if they’d been screwed by a dog. They scrambled apart and quickly straightened each other’s disheveled clothes.

Shuang Yu, both mortified and furious, raised his hand and punched Shi Heng.

    “Oof…”

Shi Heng clutched his stomach and bent over, explaining with an apologetic smile, “Well… I was right, wasn’t I? Dad needed some external stimulation, and look, he’s awake!”

This was a truly cringe-worthy moment of social death! Shuang Yu covered his face, wanting to bury a certain dog who only thought with his lower body!

He took a deep breath, composed his expression, and finally looked at Zuo Fei. Zuo Fei’s eyes were filled with tears as he beckoned him over.

    “Dad, welcome back.”

With a choked voice, Shuang Yu pulled the delicate Zuo Fei into his arms and spoke hoarsely.

“It’s like a dream… I wake up, and my son is already so grown up. I’m back, Xiao Yu.”

Zuo Fei looked dazed, tears welling in his eyes, but a gentle smile graced his lips.

Ten years passed in the blink of an eye. When Shi Heng opened his eyes, he suddenly froze. He discovered with horror that the person in his arms was terrifyingly cold. The panic of loss gradually crept into his heart as he arduously lowered his head.

In his embrace, Shuang Yu lay quietly as if in a deep sleep, but he had long lost the body heat and breath he depended on for life. Scalding tears streamed down Shi Heng’s cheeks without warning. With trembling lips, he closed his eyes as he always did and kissed his brow, whispering in a choked voice, “Good morning… wifey… wait for me… I’ll come find you soon.”

He rose as if nothing was wrong and pressed the call bell. Soon, the elderly Chief Steward entered.

    “Your Majesty, good morning.”

“Issue my decree. Appoint Shen Zhi, the son of Shi Shu and Shen Jiatian, as the Crown Prince. Shi Shu is to be appointed as Regent Minister, to assist His Highness the Crown Prince until he can rule independently. Also… summon Wei Yichen to see me. Prepare… prepare for the Empress’s and my… funeral!”

Shi Heng choked out the words.

Shi Shu had ultimately married a high-quality female Omega from the Shen family, and their child had taken the mother’s surname to continue the royal bloodline.

    “Your Majesty!”

The old Chief Steward knelt, sobbing.

Shi Heng said nothing more. He carried Shuang Yu’s cold body to the bathroom, personally washed him, and dressed him. By the time Shi Shu arrived with his wife, son, and Wei Yichen, Shi Heng had already finished everything and was sitting by the bed, silently watching over Shuang Yu’s body.

    “Your Majesty…”

Guessing his intentions, everyone fell to their knees in silence.

“I was so happy, I almost forgot he only had ten years… I heard the Path to the Underworld is dark and cold. Without me to accompany him, will he be very lonely? Shi Shu, you have assisted me for so many years; I trust you will raise your son to be a good emperor. Wei Yichen, take care of Yu’s father. This is what you owe him. All of you may leave. I am a little tired.”

Shi Heng gazed lovingly at Shuang Yu’s body. After giving his final instructions, he dismissed everyone.

“Yu, thank you for giving me these ten years! Thank you for always tolerating my selfishness and immaturity, and thank you for teaching me what love is… I did many terrible things to you, which I can never repay in this lifetime. If I can, I hope to use my next life, and the one after that, to atone for the sins I’ve committed… I once said that if I failed, I would die with you. So… wait for me.”

Gently caressing Shuang Yu’s cold cheek, he finished speaking softly and drank the poison he had long prepared. An excruciating pain tore through his organs, but his eyes were filled with tenderness as he leaned down, his blood-stained lips gently kissing Shuang Yu’s cold ones.
