Chapter 107 – The White Moonlight is Forcibly Loved by the Substitute 5
The little boy had never been to school, so he didn’t know how to write the characters for “Jingmo.” But he thought the name sounded wonderful and nodded happily again and again.
“Jingmo, Jingmo, from now on, I’ll have a name just like everyone else!”
The child’s brilliant smile was, for some reason, heartbreaking.
Although Shuang Yu felt pity, he also knew that his world was too chaotic, and he had no time to care for others. He and little Jingmo were just passing strangers.
“Yu’s friends are looking for him outside right now, little Jingmo. Yu needs you to help bring him over…”
He patted Jingmo’s head and very carefully described Meng Ying’s appearance to him. Little Jingmo listened attentively and then nodded and stood up.
“Mister… no, Yu, don’t worry, I will definitely bring your friend here! Wait for me…”
The door was closed, and the sound of the little boy’s footsteps gradually faded into the distance. Before leaving the alley, little Jingmo quickly rubbed his clean hands on the ground to make them dirty, ensuring he looked filthy and smelly enough not to attract attention. Only then did he run out of the alley. He keenly noticed that there were many outsiders on the street today. Among these people were not only Yu’s friends but also Yu’s enemies. He kept Shuang Yu’s words in mind, avoiding the menacing bad guys and quietly searching for his friend.
His luck was good; after walking two streets, he saw Meng Ying. Meng Ying was stopping passersby to ask questions when a small, grimy hand tugged at the corner of his clothes.
“Kid, what are you doing? Are you looking to die?”
One of Meng Ying’s subordinates pushed little Jingmo away and warned him fiercely. Another subordinate quickly took out a handkerchief to wipe the corner of his clothes. A dirty five-fingered handprint was now on the white suit, causing his brow to furrow.
“Brother Meng, should we teach this little bastard a lesson?”
The subordinate asked quickly when he saw him frowning.
“Forget it. Why bother with a child? Just chase him away,” Meng Ying said. Although he was annoyed, he didn’t want to argue with a child. He just wanted to get rid of him quickly and continue searching for Si Shuang Yu.
“I… I know where the person you’re looking for is!”
Although Jingmo was scared, he still mustered the courage to speak. The group’s pupils shrank, and one of them grabbed him by the collar and lifted him up. “You little bastard, if you dare to lie, I’ll throw you into the sea to feed the sharks!”
“I… I’m not lying! It… it was Yu who asked me to find him!”
Little Jingmo sniffled and pointed a trembling finger at Meng Ying as he answered. These… these men are so scary… Yu is not like them at all. Yu is so gentle!
“Take us there. If you dare to have any other ideas…”
Meng Ying narrowed his eyes and threatened, making a throat-slitting gesture. It wasn’t surprising that they were so vigilant and distrustful. Treacherous lands breed cunning people, and they had already been tricked by several groups of people who claimed to have saved Si Shuang Yu, only to be led into dark alleys for a robbery attempt. Even if this little brat was a decoy, they weren’t afraid.
The group followed little Jingmo in a large procession, turning left and right until they finally arrived at a small, single-story house. Little Jingmo paid them no mind. As he neared his home, he excitedly started to run, shouting as he went, “Yu, I brought your friends!”
“Fuck, hurry up and follow him!”
When Meng Ying saw him take off running, he cursed and hurriedly followed.
Squeak—
The door was pushed open, and a sweaty little Jingmo threw himself into Shuang Yu’s arms.
“Yu, your friends are super scary! I was afraid!”
He rubbed his small, childish cheek against Shuang Yu’s chest, tattling in a sweet, high-pitched voice. Meng Ying and the others, who came in a moment later, were filled with surprise and exclaimed excitedly, “Xiao Yu (Brother Yu), are you okay?!”
“My luck’s not bad. I survived,” Shuang Yu nodded calmly.
“Go get the car, and bring a set of clean clothes,” Meng Ying ordered a subordinate in a low voice, then stepped outside to call Gu Qiyan.
“Go buy some pastries and get twenty thousand in cash. This little one saved me. If it weren’t for him, you’d probably be looking at my corpse,” Shuang Yu said to one of the men, ruffling little Jingmo’s hair.
“Yu, are you leaving me?”
Realizing he was about to leave, little Jingmo’s eyes immediately turned red, and he asked pitifully.
“Yes… I have to go. If I stay, I’ll cause trouble for you.”
“Please don’t go… I’m not afraid of trouble. Or, you could take me with you.”
Little Jingmo held his hand tightly, his eyes brimming with tears as he asked.
“Damn it, kid, don’t push your luck! You think you can just latch onto our Brother Yu?”
One of the hot-tempered subordinates raised his fist as if to strike.
“What are you doing? Are you afraid people don’t know you’re a hooligan? You won’t even spare a child?”
Shuang Yu glared at him and scolded coldly.
“I… I didn’t mean it like that, Brother Yu. He’s threatening you…”
The man awkwardly lowered his hand.
“What do you think he could threaten me with?”
Shuang Yu asked back, amused, then looked down and pinched little Jingmo’s grimy cheek. “All good things must come to an end. You have parents and a family. I have no right to take you away. I’ll leave you some money. Use it to buy good food and drinks, and try to fatten yourself up. When Yu has time, I’ll come back to see you.”
“You’re lying! I know you won’t come back to see me. You’re abandoning me just like mommy did…”
Little Jingmo sobbed and slapped his hand away, only to throw himself into his arms again the next second, acting spoiled. “Yu… Yu, don’t abandon little Mo. Little Mo will be very good. Please take little Mo with you…”
Scalding tears dripped onto Shuang Yu’s abdomen, soaking the bandages. The wound burned as if salt had been poured on it. Shuang Yu felt a pang of sympathy, but his life was destined to be filled with bloodshed. Taking the boy with him would only harm him. In the end, he just patted the back of his head and said nothing.
Little Jingmo’s heart sank into a bottomless abyss. He hugged his narrow waist as if they were parting forever, crying with grief and sorrow. Tears streamed from his eyes like a bursting dam. The scene looked somewhat strange. Anyone who didn’t know better would think Brother Yu was his father! The group of thugs looked at each other awkwardly.
Soon, the subordinate returned with new clothes, money, and a large bag of snacks, including bread, instant noodles, milk, and so on. Shuang Yu asked everyone to wait outside. He quickly changed his clothes and stuffed the twenty thousand in cash and the food into Jingmo’s hands.
“This money, don’t let anyone else spend it. Keep it for yourself. I will definitely come back to see you in the future. Pinky promise.”
He held out his little finger, his expression gentle as he spoke. Little Jingmo’s eyes were swollen from crying. He nodded while tears continued to fall, and held out his hand to make a pinky promise with him.
“Good boy.”
Shuang Yu smiled gently, cupped his face, and placed a light, fleeting kiss on his forehead before getting up to leave.
Click—
The main door closed, and it felt as if Jingmo’s heart had fallen into a pit. He stared blankly at the closed door, a feeling of regret welling up in his heart for the first time. Why did he listen to Yu and go find those people? If he hadn’t gone out, hadn’t brought those people back, wouldn’t Yu have been unable to go anywhere, forced to stay by his side?
