Chapter Index

After breakfast, Jingmo announced he was leaving. He walked over to Shuang Yu and gently took his hand.

“I have to go back to the casino. Yu, can I really not stay with you?”

His overly intense gaze was brimming with anticipation.

Shuang Yu felt his entire body soften under that look, almost nodding in agreement.

Fortunately, he managed to pull his senses back in time.

This body of his really wasn’t suited for cohabitation; it was too damaging to his image.

Calmly shaking his head, Shuang Yu maintained an impervious demeanor.

What a pity, the honeypot scheme was so close to succeeding…

Disappointment filled Jingmo’s eyes, but he wasn’t discouraged. He swiftly cupped his face and planted a fleeting kiss on his forehead.

“I’m leaving then. Yu, remember to think of me, and you must tell me when you move!”

As if afraid of being scolded, he kissed him quickly and then made a swift escape.

    Click—

    The main door closed.

Shuang Yu belatedly touched his own forehead.

When he looked up, he met Cheng Meng’s teasing gaze.

    “Brother Yu, you’re smitten!”

“Smitten with what? If my heart wasn’t beating, I’d be dead!”

    Shuang Yu stubbornly retorted.

The latter gave a meaningful glance towards his lower body.

He belatedly looked down, then immediately turned around and cursed, “Fuck!”

Little Yu… had given a rather impolite salute!

“Brother, since I can see that kid is into you too, why don’t you just go for it and eat him all up!”

Cheng Meng giggled, starting to offer terrible advice.

“Be a decent human being, will you? I’m a whole fifteen years older than him! What could he possibly do with me, have a May-December romance?! A middle-aged old man like me shouldn’t be ruining a fine young man’s life!”

Shuang Yu cursed under his breath and hurried back to his room.

“Haha! To think I’d live to see the day Brother Yu flees in panic!”

Cheng Meng clutched his stomach, laughing. A week passed in the blink of an eye.

Three days ago, Shuang Yu had sent invitations to all the families in Tianning, inviting their leaders to a gathering for his inauguration ceremony.

For as long as Shuang Yu had been away, Gu Qiyan had been withdrawn.

He locked himself in his room all day, drinking and refusing to see anyone.

    Click—

Meng Ying pushed open the door and walked in.

The floor was littered with empty wine bottles and cigarette butts.

Gu Qiyan, dead drunk, was hugging a wine bottle, crying even in his sleep, constantly whispering, “Xiao Yu… Xiao Yu, I was wrong… come back…”

Feeling both heartbroken and jealous, Meng Ying walked over without a second thought, dragged him up, and headed for the bathroom.

    Splash—

Cold water poured over his head. The drunken Gu Qiyan shivered from the chill, slowly opening his eyes and roaring, “What are you doing, Meng Ying!”

The latter remained silent, continuing to spray him with cold water.

“Damn it, are you trying to rebel?!”

Humiliated and enraged, Gu Qiyan swung his fists to hit him.

“Look at the state you’re in! A mere Si Shuangyu has reduced you to this pathetic mess. How long are you going to stay down in the dumps?!”

“My business is none of your concern!”

“If I don’t care about you, who will? I’m the one who’s been by your side for the past thirteen years! Do you still not understand my feelings for you? Why can’t you turn around and look at me? Why can’t you let go of someone who abandoned you long ago…”

The two of them ended up wrestling on the floor. With his eyes bloodshot, Gu Qiyan suddenly grabbed Meng Ying’s neck and squeezed hard.

“Shut up! Shut your damn mouth! Xiao Yu wouldn’t just leave me like this! He came back for me…”

Disappointment and hurt filled Meng Ying’s eyes. He didn’t struggle, just looked at him with a calm, mocking gaze.

It was as if to say: How long are you going to keep deceiving yourself?

“It’s all your fault! It’s all because of you! If you hadn’t been jealous and betrayed him, if you hadn’t stopped me from killing Gu Yanfeng, there wouldn’t be this misunderstanding between us…”

Gu Qiyan blamed everything on Meng Ying, the pressure from his hands tightening again and again.

Meng Ying’s face quickly turned purple. His eyes filled with sorrow and despair, and a single hot tear rolled down his cheek. He calmly closed his eyes, as if awaiting the arrival of death.

A dull ache throbbed in his heart. Gu Qiyan frantically let go, collapsing on top of him and crying apologies, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, Meng Ying… I didn’t really want to kill you…”

“Yes… it’s all my fault. It’s because I was too greedy for you… A Yan, if my death can bring you peace, then I am willing to die by your hand…”

Meng Ying’s eyes were filled with sincerity as he gently patted his back, soothing him in a soft voice.
