Chapter Index

“Is that it?” Cheng Meng stared at the monitor screen, asking a dazed Song Heng beside him.

In less than twenty minutes, Jingmo’s team had finished the battle and were quickly retreating from the rebel territory. The rest of the battlefield was now the C Country government’s problem. Thinking back on the scenes they had just witnessed, both men were utterly shaken.

Strong. They were just too strong. Jingmo’s team was definitely one of the best in the world. Who would have thought that the leader of this elite mercenary team was a young man barely in his early twenties…

“I need some quiet time. And don’t ask me who ‘Jingjing’ is…” Song Heng pinched the bridge of his nose, clearly still reeling from the shock.

“I’m starting to worship that Yandere Little Biscuit. He’s the fighter jet among men!” Cheng Meng swallowed hard, a look of existential crisis on his face.

About twenty minutes later, Jingmo and his group returned. “Little Biscuit, I declare that from this day forward, you are my idol! So damn cool!” Cheng Meng ran towards him excitedly, raising his hand for a high-five.

The latter dodged with a look of disdain, his eyes asking, Are you an idiot?

“Aww, playing favorites isn’t right! Would you dare show your true face in front of Brother Yu?”

“You’re wrong. The me in front of Yu is my truest self,” Jingmo retorted with a humorless smile.

The subtext was clear: The rest of you aren’t worthy of seeing my true face.

Cheng Meng was speechless. Do you believe that? Because I sure don’t!

Song Heng’s brow furrowed as he stared at the captured Meng Ying. Their gazes met in mid-air. He saw malice and unwillingness in the other’s eyes. This person absolutely could not be left alive. If they let this tiger return to the mountain, it would likely bring harm to Xiao Yu. A murderous intent rose in Song Heng’s heart, but he didn’t show it. Jingmo saw his expression but didn’t expose him.

“Let’s head back.” The group got into the vehicles and returned to base in a grand procession.

On the way back, Song Heng took out his phone and dialed Shuang Yu’s number. There was a fifteen-hour time difference between the two countries. The afternoon here was the middle of the night for Shuang Yu. Knowing how hard his nights were, he shouldn’t have disturbed him, but the situation was urgent, so he had no choice but to call. The phone rang twice before it was quickly answered. Clearly, Shuang Yu hadn’t been asleep.

“Brother Heng, how’s the situation?” His voice was filled with exhaustion, a clear sign that he hadn’t been resting well these past few days.

“The transaction was sabotaged. Jingmo captured Meng Ying. I suspect he’s with the World Government!” Song Heng quickly recounted the events of the past few days and stated his suspicion.

Shuang Yu had long guessed that Jingmo’s development would be impressive; after all, he was a great figure descending to the mortal world to undergo a tribulation. But he had only guessed the beginning, not the end. [My Lord, we can’t use a normal person’s logic to analyze a psycho!] Xiao Ai piped up from the Little Black Room.

Shuang Yu was speechless. That makes a lot of sense. My thinking was too narrow. It seems I still have a long way to go to reach his level of derangement… If Jingmo was from the World Government, then things would be troublesome. This went against his plan. His plan was to have Gu Qiyan personally deal with Meng Ying. If Meng Ying was captured by the World Government, he would most likely just rot in prison, which was letting him off too easily!

“What are the chances of Meng Ying escaping?” Shuang Yu asked after careful consideration.

“If Jingmo doesn’t go easy on him, the chances are zero,” Song Heng stated bluntly.

Meng Ying was a key figure in capturing Ai Jing. If he escaped, Jingmo would probably be punished. Shuang Yu had no intention of letting him take that risk. But if it was Song Heng and the others who let Meng Ying escape, the situation would be different. At most, he would be charged with negligence of duty.

“I’ll handle this matter. You all follow my orders,” Shuang Yu decided after some thought.

After returning to the base, Jingmo didn’t rest. Instead, he went directly to the room where Meng Ying was being held and began interrogating him. Yin Ge’s people would arrive in C Country tomorrow, at which point he just needed to hand over Meng Ying and the evidence to her. Confession brings leniency, resistance brings severity. Meng Ying revealed everything he knew and all the evidence he possessed. He was just one of Ai Jing’s minor subordinates, not a core member, so the evidence he had was not enough to deal a heavy blow to Ai Jing. More useful than the trivial evidence he had was the network of contacts he provided.

“The tycoon Calvin from D Country, the councilor Jason Cowley from C Country… all these people have had contact with Ai Jing. You can start your investigation with them. Also, Ai Jing’s most trusted subordinate is named Tian Yue. If you can capture him, you’ll get more evidence. But this person is extremely loyal to Ai Jing. It’ll be difficult to get him to talk while he’s alive.”

“Thank you for your cooperation. I’m sorry to have you stay at my base for a day. The World Government will be here to take you tomorrow,” Jingmo said with a smile as he stood up and turned off the recording.

His polite demeanor made it seem as if Meng Ying were just a tourist visiting. “I’ve told you everything I know. Can’t you cut me some slack?” Meng Ying pleaded.

Once taken away by the World Government, all that awaited him was a prison sentence. He didn’t want to die, nor did he want to go to jail. He was even more unwilling to accept defeat just like that. After all, he hadn’t killed Si Shuangyu yet. That man was a menace. This operation alone showed that he would be the death of A Yan sooner or later!

“Mr. Meng, you seem to overestimate me. I’m just a small fry working for the World Government. I don’t have the authority to decide your fate!” Jingmo’s lips curled slightly as he finished with a humorless smile and left.

Back in his dorm, he took a shower and lay on the bed, caressing his phone. He wanted to call Shuang Yu but was afraid of disturbing his rest. Yu must have had a hard time these past few days without him. He must have been suffering from insomnia every night. He had confiscated all his “tools,” so his nights must have been unbearable…

As if by telepathy, just as Jingmo was hesitating, his phone rang. It was Shuang Yu. “Yu.” The call connected, and his voice was low and gentle, full of affection, enough to make one’s ears pregnant.

Shuang Yu, his mind in a whirl, let out a silent groan and quickly looked down. This was insane. Just how thirsty was he? Just hearing his voice was enough to get a reaction. Could he please act like a normal person! Frustrated, Shuang Yu didn’t realize that he had unintentionally let out a moan.

“Yu, I miss you so much…” Jingmo was very satisfied with his response. The corners of his lips lifted gently, and his voice became even more bewitching.

Fuck! His mind turning to mush, Shuang Yu felt a sense of danger and subconsciously wanted to hang up. I’ll take care of my physiological needs first and then call him back…

“Don’t hang up, Yu. Mmm…” Jingmo guessed his intention and let out a soft hum, his voice instantly becoming strained and hoarse.

He… he wouldn’t be… Shuang Yu’s face instantly turned beet red. That little brat, was he actually engaging in phone play with him? He’d never seen him be this bold before!
