Chapter Index

“Don’t bully a child. And look at yourself, you’re scaring her.” Shuang Yu frowned, pushing the blood-stained Feng Yan away. He then put on a gentle smile and picked up the teary-eyed little girl.

“Nannan, did you miss your uncle?”

Nannan glanced timidly at the sullen-faced Feng Yan, then quickly wrapped her arms around Shuang Yu’s neck and nodded silently.

“Young Master Bai, what brings you here? Is everything all right…?” Wu Hongyu, who was in the room, heard his daughter call for her uncle and followed her out.

Nannan’s room wasn’t far from where the commotion had occurred. He had heard the fight as soon as it started but hadn’t dared to come out and look, fearing he might get into trouble. If it weren’t for his daughter’s curiosity opening the door, he would never have known that Bai Shuangyu was the one causing the trouble.

“I’ve been busy with company matters lately and haven’t had much time to see Nannan. Since it’s the weekend, I came over. My dad was supposed to come with me, but he got invited to go fishing by Director Chen,” Shuang Yu explained with a smile.

“Hello, Secretary Wu. I hope you don’t mind my uninvited visit,” Feng Yan said, flashing a brilliant smile, unwilling to be left out.

“Of course not. It’s my daughter’s good fortune that President Feng would come to see her.” Wu Hongyu replied with a polite smile, though he was utterly bewildered. He had heard from Old Bai that their company had signed a contract with FI, but he never expected Feng Yan and Bai Shuangyu to be close enough to visit the sick together.

“Y-you weren’t following Yan Qianqian here?” the young nurse who had called security earlier exclaimed.

Nannan was wearing their hospital’s patient gown, proving that he hadn’t been lying.

“Who does she think she is? Even if every other woman in the world died, I wouldn’t be desperate enough for her,” Shuang Yu retorted with a slight frown.

The way everyone looked at Yan Qianqian immediately changed.

“What the hell? He wasn’t even here to see you, but you were so self-important to think he was stalking you and even had me call security. I lost my job because of you! Are you even human? You have to take responsibility for this!” The young nurse had come to completely despise Yan Qianqian. If it wasn’t for her peacock-like self-importance, how could she have offended such a powerful figure and lost her job?

“Miss Nurse, you need to be reasonable. You were the one who took it upon yourself to bring the security guards…” Yan Qianqian said, her eyes red with grievance.

She wasn’t exactly lying. After all, the other girl had been overly enthusiastic from the start, hadn’t she?

“I took it upon myself?! If you hadn’t deliberately played the victim in front of me, how could I have misunderstood? Just because you’re a big star, you can be shameless? I lost my job because of you, and now I can’t even make a living in City A, yet you’re trying to wash your hands of it! You’re really too much!” the young nurse sobbed, beginning her tirade.

Although there weren’t many patients in the private hospital, there were plenty of doctors and nurses. “This is hilarious. She really thinks everyone loves her, that flowers bloom wherever she goes. Stalking her? How shameless!”

“I can’t believe it. Does she have persecutory delusions?”

“What’s wrong with her? She’s ruining our hospital’s reputation.”

“Seriously, I can’t believe this. She gets someone else fired and then plays the innocent victim. Xiao He is so pitiful.”

    ***

Compared to the Yan Qianqian they saw on screen, the doctors and nurses were clearly more familiar with their own colleague. Xiao He was a kind-hearted and enthusiastic girl who cherished her job more than anyone. If she hadn’t been deceived by Yan Qianqian, she would never have taken it upon herself to have security cause a scene. Yan Qianqian had caused such a huge mess, yet instead of taking responsibility or even apologizing, she tried to push all the blame onto Xiao He. And she still had the nerve to cry? Did she really think that after causing such a big incident, she could just cry her way out of it? This big star’s character was truly ‘one of a kind’! It wasn’t just different from her on-screen persona; it was completely unrelated.

The crowd couldn’t help but feel a sense of disgust towards Yan Qianqian.

[Ding, Vicious Ghost’s Resentment reduced by 10. Current Resentment: -60.]

Since her rebirth, Yan Qianqian had always had things go her way. But ever since the banquet, it seemed like she had been constantly plagued by bad luck. She thought she could use others to mess with Bai Shuangyu, but thanks to Feng Yan’s interference, she had once again screwed things up. Her heart seethed with hatred, but she still tried her best to salvage the situation.

Facing everyone’s accusations, her eyes reddened as she said in a choked and aggrieved voice, “I misunderstood. It’s just that Young Master Bai has done many things to trouble me in the past, which is why I made a mistake… I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. My mother is sick, and I have too much work. The pressure has made me emotionally unstable. Perhaps, as you all say, I’ve developed persecutory delusions… Miss Nurse, I’m sorry. I’m the one who caused you to lose your job. I’m willing to take responsibility. If… if you’re willing, you can be my assistant. Although the hours are unstable and it’s quite tiring, the salary will definitely be no less than what you earn here.”

“So, Miss Yan has decided to make an enemy of me, Feng Yan?” Feng Yan asked with a raised eyebrow and a smile.

He had just said he was going to blacklist someone, yet she immediately offered to hire them right in front of him. Was she trying to challenge him? Feng Yan’s aura was so powerful that the atmosphere on the scene became extremely oppressive. No one dared to even breathe too loudly.

Yan Qianqian was cursing him internally, but tears streamed down her face like broken pearls. “That’s not what I meant… President Feng, I didn’t mean to oppose you… We’re just small figures. I beg you to be merciful and let us go this once…”

No matter how pitiful or weak she appeared, no one on the scene dared to sympathize with her.

“Your crying face isn’t bad,” Feng Yan suddenly said with an extremely brilliant smile, his expression bewitching.

    Thump, thump, thump, thump—

Yan Qianqian’s heart began to pound violently. Could it be that this mad dog was captivated by her? If that was the case, things would be much easier… If she could hook up with Feng Yan, she would surely repay the humiliation Bai Shuangyu had brought upon her a thousand, ten thousand times over!

“President Feng… please don’t bully me anymore…” she sniffled, speaking in a cloying, coquettish tone.

“The crying is a bit fake, but it’s still pleasing to the eye. I look forward to seeing you cry your heart out in the future. So, Miss Yan, rest assured, I will bully you even more from now on, so you can truly cry. I’ll be looking forward to it.” Feng Yan gave her a playful wink, but the words that came out of his mouth were filled with utter malice.

Too shocked, Yan Qianqian even forgot to continue crying, her facial expression as stiff as if she had just had a Botox injection.

“Get them out,” Feng Yan ordered, not even bothering to spare her another glance. Then, he forcefully went to take Nannan from Shuang Yu’s arms.

“Little cutie, let uncle hold you. Don’t cling to my person.”

The little girl trembled in fear, clinging even tighter to Shuang Yu’s neck without letting go. He didn’t care, pulling both the big and the small into his embrace and said out of nowhere, “Our child will definitely be even cuter.”

Shuang Yu was flabbergasted. Lunatic, how can two men have a child! Even if they could, it would never happen between them. After all… humans and ghosts walk different paths!

Before leaving, he looked back at the pale-faced Yan Qianqian. A meaningful smile once again curved his lips. This was the second smile he had shown Yan Qianqian. Just like the one in the greenhouse, it was… unforgettable!

    “Bai Shuangyu!” Yan Qianqian shrieked.

But Shuang Yu didn’t turn back, leaving her with only the sight of his straight back. Damn it, damn it. Why was it like this? Could it be that Bai Shuangyu, like her… had also been reborn?!

Yan Qianqian bit her nails, her vicious gaze fixed on him, following him like a shadow, like a thorn in her back.
