Chapter Index

    “Are you looking for something?”

Shi Heng blinked in confusion, asking gently.

“N-nothing. It was… it was my mistake. I’m sorry.”

Although Shuang Yu suspected he was the pervert, he had no proof, so he could only apologize for now.

“It’s okay. You can rest for a bit. Lunch will be ready soon.”

Shi Heng seemed to believe his words, offering a brilliant smile before getting back to his work.

Having just taken advantage of the man, Shuang Yu couldn’t bring himself to put on a stern face. He could only nod stiffly and walk towards the living room.

Behind him, Shi Heng watched his back, a deep smile crossing his lips as his alluring phoenix eyes glanced at the frying pan on the counter.

Shuang Yu would probably never dream that he had thrown his spare phone into the pan!

Sitting on the sofa, he stared intently at the man busy in the kitchen, his brows furrowed enough to crush a fly. The man’s looks were more Alpha than an Alpha, more aristocratic than Shi Shu and Wei Yichen, yet his actions had nothing to do with an Alpha at all. Alphas were notoriously arrogant; even inferior Alphas were unwilling to cook, let alone other types. Was he really a mutated species, merely Shi Shu’s retainer?

    Dilili—

The sound of the electronic lock at the door clicked, and soon Shi Shu, Wei Yichen, and Ji Mian walked in.

“Xiao Yu, how could you let a guest cook for you… Oh, sorry, I forgot, you never step into the kitchen.”

Ji Mian first exclaimed in surprise, then stuck out his tongue apologetically and trotted towards the kitchen.

“I’m so sorry to trouble you like this. I can take over.”

His intention was to show off in front of Shi Shu and, at the same time, gain some favorability with Shi Heng. Although he looked down on Shi Heng’s status, he didn’t mind having a few more simps around him, as it would highlight how special he was. Surrounded by so many handsome, high-quality Alphas, Ji Mian couldn’t control the leakage of his pheromones, and a faint lotus scent filled the air.

Shi Heng kept his head down, a dark look flashing in his eyes at the disgusting omega pheromone scent.

“No need, I can handle it myself. You’re Viscount Wei’s boyfriend; you shouldn’t be doing these chores. Please go outside, the meal will be ready soon.”

He looked up and spoke to Ji Mian with a polite smile. Although his tone was gentle, it carried an inexplicable sense of pressure.

Hmph, just like Ji Shuangyu, born to be a drudge. He deserves to serve others for the rest of his life.

Ji Mian was furious at his lack of appreciation and looked helplessly at Shi Shu for help.

“Just let him do it. Shi Heng doesn’t like people interfering when he’s working.”

Shi Shu mediated with a smile.

“But… I feel uneasy letting an Alpha into the kitchen…”

Ji Mian said, his eyes filled with guilt and unease.

“My family has good genes. He does look very Alpha, but he’s actually a beta.”

The latter raised an eyebrow and explained with a smile.

So he was a damn beta. Ji Mian’s disdain for Shi Heng grew, and he instantly felt that he wasn’t even qualified to be his simp.

Shuang Yu couldn’t be bothered with this self-important drama queen and was fully focused on the news on the television. When he saw a familiar figure being taken away by prosecutors, a sharp glint flashed in his eyes, and his thin lips curled up!

“In other news, Ji Weiheng, the chairman of Weiheng Technology Development Company, has been taken in for investigation on suspicion of tax evasion. According to sources, the amount of tax evasion Ji Weiheng is suspected of involves up to 1.3 billion. If the investigation confirms this, Ji Weiheng is very likely to be sentenced to three to seven years in prison…”

“My, Viscount Wei, someone is openly evading taxes on your father’s fiefdom. And the amount involved is quite large.”

Shi Shu suddenly pointed at the screen, looking at Wei Yichen with schadenfreude. She didn’t seem to know that the man being taken away was Ji Mian’s father.

The two, who were still whispering sweet nothings, looked at the screen, and in the next second, their faces changed drastically.

“N-no, that can’t be. My father has always been a law-abiding citizen. He would never evade taxes. I-I need to call him…”

Ji Mian’s face turned deathly pale in an instant, and large tears fell like they were free. He tremblingly took out his phone and dialed Ji Weiheng’s number, only to be met with the mechanical female voice announcing that the phone was switched off. His father never turned off his phone, which meant Ji Weiheng was really in trouble!

Why would this happen? The higher-ups all knew about his relationship with Wei Yichen. Even if it was just for a third party’s sake, how could they dare to publicly investigate his father’s company!

“M-my father’s phone is off. Yichen, he’s not really in trouble, is he? Sob, sob, sob…”

Ji Mian panicked and cried incessantly, which made Wei Yichen’s heart grow heavy with frustration. He was already annoyed with Ji Weiheng over the matter of Ji Shuangyu’s school qualifications being revoked. Now that something this major had happened, his dislike for Ji Weiheng had turned into extreme disgust. But he was still Ji Mian’s father, and he couldn’t just ignore him, because this matter would ultimately hurt his innocent Mianmian. Despite his disgust, Wei Yichen knew he had to deal with Ji Weiheng’s situation.

“Don’t cry, Mianmian. I’ll have someone look into it right away.”

He tenderly wiped the tears from Ji Mian’s face and anxiously picked up his phone, heading into his room.

“Sob, sob, sob, what will I do if something happens to my father… Someone must have framed him. My father would never do something like this…”

Ji Mian cried his heart out, looking as if he might faint at any moment.

[Ding, Vicious Ghost’s Resentment -5. Current resentment: 75.]

In Shuang Yu’s mind, Xiao Ai’s resentment report sounded again. Over the past few days, although he had been busy with coding and classes, he had not stopped his revenge against Ji Weiheng. He had sensed from Wei Sheng’s attitude towards Ji Mian that he disliked both father and son. The first thing he did after returning was to have Xiao Ai compile evidence of Ji Weiheng’s tax evasion and anonymously report it to Wei Sheng’s private email. As he expected, Wei Sheng did not stand by idly. No matter how much power Wei Yichen had, he couldn’t overpower his father. The person Wei Sheng wanted to take down, he would definitely not be able to protect.

Wei Sheng might, for his son’s sake, spare Ji Weiheng from prison, but a huge financial loss and a damaged reputation were unavoidable. If he didn’t push Ji Weiheng, how would he become desperate enough to take extreme measures!

“Don’t cry, Mianmian. Let’s say, for the sake of argument, even if your father did evade taxes, with your relationship with Wei Yichen, he certainly wouldn’t just stand by and watch. Of course, if he really does nothing, then there’s a high probability that he just doesn’t want to save him.”

Shi Shu smiled and pulled the tearful Ji Mian into her arms. Her words seemed comforting, but they were actually driving a wedge between the two’s relationship.

    “N-no, he wouldn’t. Yichen wouldn’t do this to me…”

Ji Mian felt as if he had lost his pillar of support and threw himself into her arms, wailing, but his heart was in a panic. His father was no saint; the tax evasion was almost certainly true. If Wei Yichen really didn’t save him and his father went to jail, what would he do then!

Shuang Yu looked at the two, whose actions were becoming ambiguous, and raised an eyebrow. Well, damn, it seemed fate had really sent him a helper. It looked like he wouldn’t have to go to the trouble of seducing Wei Yichen himself. With a troublemaker like Shi Shu around, their relationship was bound to have problems sooner or later!
