Chapter Index

At the airport, Wei Yichen was intercepted as expected. Shi Heng’s men had already cast a wide net across all transportation hubs, and the moment he appeared, he was immediately apprehended and escorted back to the palace.

The dose of tranquilizer had been too heavy, and Shi Heng only awoke after a full day and night. The moment he opened his eyes, his pheromones began to overflow uncontrollably once more. The immense emotional turmoil had triggered his Susceptibility Period ahead of schedule. The inhibitors that had worked in the past had no effect this time. He could only lock himself in his bedroom, pulling out all of Shuang Yu’s clothes and piling them on the bed like a small mountain.

This was the behavior of an Alpha in their Susceptibility Period who was extremely insecure due to their partner’s absence. Inhaling the scent of Shuang Yu’s pajamas, Shi Heng whimpered and cried, continuously calling his name. “Yu… Yu…”

Because of his Susceptibility Period, his entire body was burning red. He was in extreme discomfort but could find no relief, forced to endure it raw. His thoughts were a constant, muddled haze. One moment he was fantasizing about ravishing Shuang Yu, and the next he was heartbroken over his abandonment. With tear-filled eyes, Shi Heng quietly clenched his fists, his gaze filled with confusion. Shuang Yu’s words from before he left kept replaying in his mind.

Did he love him, merely because they were a Fated Pair? If they weren’t fated, if they weren’t an omega and an Alpha, would he still be drawn to him? Would they still fall in love? No… Were they truly in love? Shuang Yu had never said he loved him. All this time, it had just been his own one-sided, forceful obsession.

“Why are you so cruel to me… Why do you doubt my love for you… I can prove it… Even if we aren’t fated, even if we weren’t an omega and an Alpha, I would still love you… sob… Yu… Yu… I miss you so much…” Shi Heng wept, his eyes filled with an inescapable sorrow and vulnerability.

A month passed in a flash. Throughout that month, his men had been searching for Shuang Yu’s whereabouts, but it was as if he had vanished from the face of the earth, leaving not a single trace.

In the torture chamber, a whip laced with thorns lashed again and again against Wei Yichen’s body, splitting his skin open. A month of torment had stripped him of his former vigor; his entire body was covered in wounds, with not an inch of skin left unscathed.

“Your Highness, he’s passed out,” the guard administering the punishment reported, retracting the whip.

Shi Heng sipped his tea and spoke with an indifferent tone, “Wake him up. Continue!”

“Your Highness, his body is already a spent force. If this continues… he might die!” the Head of the Guards said with concern.

“Die? He doesn’t deserve to… Don’t worry, he won’t die. I’ve prepared the best doctors for him. Yu is kind and won’t hold it against him, but why should I let him go? He took everything from Yu. Courtesy demands reciprocity, so I will strip him of everything as well.” A smile bloomed on Shi Heng’s lips. It was a beautiful smile, as beautiful as a red spider lily blooming in hell, exuding a thick scent of death and decay.

Everyone understood that His Highness was determined to have his revenge. Even His Majesty couldn’t do anything about it, so what right did they have to interfere? Tap, tap, tap— The sound of hurried footsteps echoed.

“Your Highness, His Majesty and Her Majesty the Empress have arrived with the Grand Duke!” the chief steward rushed in to announce. Wei Sheng was here!

“How laughable. Does he think bringing Father King and Mother Empress here will solve anything? Let them in.” Shi Heng sneered, guessing Wei Sheng’s plan, his eyes filled with a cold glint.

A short while later, the three pushed open the door to the room. “Yichen!” Seeing the flayed state of his son, Wei Sheng cried out, barely restraining himself from drawing his gun on the spot.

“You rebellious son! What have you done? Release Yichen at once!” Shen Lie’s face changed drastically, and he raised his hand to slap Shi Heng.

“Hiss… Father King, you hit quite hard. It hurts. But what to do? No one is taking him away today!” Shi Heng licked the blood from the corner of his mouth, revealing a murderous smile.

“You bastard! Are you trying to rebel? What are you all standing around for? Make your move!” Shen Lie was so angry his beard trembled. He gestured for his guards to go rescue Wei Yichen.

A cold glint flashed in the latter’s eyes. As he released his pheromones, he struck with the speed of lightning. “Xiao Heng, you’re insane…” In the cramped space, a heavy, bloody scent spread rapidly. A suffocating feeling washed over them, and Shen Lie and the others fell to their knees under the oppressive force of the pheromones. His mother, Shi Yaning, couldn’t withstand the impact and fainted. The remaining beta guards had already been taken down by Shi Heng. The only one left standing steadily in the entire room was him.

Everyone’s face was contorted in pain, drenched in sweat, moaning incessantly. “Am I insane? Perhaps… A son’s fault is the father’s failure to teach. If it weren’t for you all, Yu would have grown up healthy. You personally snuffed out his happiness. Shouldn’t you pay the price?” Shi Heng let out a chilling laugh and walked step by step towards the unconscious Wei Yichen, who lay like a pile of mud.

His eyes scarlet, he choked his neck and intensified the release of his pheromones. Wei Yichen was already weak; how could he withstand such a powerful pheromone attack? He convulsed, spitting up blood, his pale face turning blue.

“Stop… Your Highness, this old subject begs you, spare my humble son’s life! You’re right, it’s all my fault. I will take his punishment. Kill me, just let him go…” Wei Sheng, his eyes red, stumbled and crawled towards Shi Heng, grabbing his trouser leg and pleading hoarsely.

“How could I kill you, Your Grace? Without your help, my father wouldn’t be on the throne. It seems I shouldn’t repay kindness with enmity, should I? This truly… puts me in a difficult position… Your precious son has you to stand up for him, but… my Yu has no one to rely on. Compared to you and your son, isn’t my Yu more pitiful?” Shi Heng tilted his head slightly, feigning a dilemma, but the force of his grip didn’t loosen in the slightest. At this point, Wei Yichen was breathing more out than in.

“It is this old subject’s fault. This old subject is willing to pay any price. I beg Your Highness to spare my humble son. I beg you…” Wei Sheng was weeping, kowtowing frantically to Shi Heng. The dull thuds echoed endlessly, and in an instant, a patch of fresh blood stained the floor.

“Xiao Heng, your Father Emperor begs you too. Let Yichen go… We’ve wronged you… Whatever you want, I’ll give it to you! Stop releasing your pheromones. Your mother’s body can’t take it…” Shen Lie pleaded, his face pale and his breathing ragged.

“But… the only thing I want in this world is Yu.” Shi Heng blinked, a purely innocent smile on his face, but his eyes were filled with an obstinate madness!

Everyone instantly understood. The only person in the world who could make Shi Heng stop now was Ji Shuangyu! Clinging to a desperate hope, Wei Sheng tremblingly dialed Shuang Yu’s number. He prayed silently, It has to connect, he has to answer. All of our lives are in his hands!
