Chapter Index

When Lin Ganzhi and Wenren Yi arrived at Que Jin’s home, they found a man standing at the door, knocking. A closer look revealed it was Que Jin’s idiot agent.

“Que Jin, open the door! You actually gained a kilogram after participating in a variety show. How are you supposed to look good on camera now! Let me tell you, don’t go on the next episode. Just stay home and lose weight!” the agent yelled while banging on the door.

Anger surged in Lin Ganzhi. He walked up and hip-checked the agent out of the way. “Move it!”

The scrawny agent was shoved several steps back by Lin Ganzhi. Just as he steadied himself and was about to start scolding, Wenren Yi came over and pushed him aside again.

The two of them stood with their hands in their pockets, looking down at the agent with a strikingly similar posture, especially the disdain in their eyes.

“Lin Ganzhi, Wenren Yi?! What is the meaning of this?” Facing two obscure celebrities, the connections hire wasn’t afraid either. It was just that when he puffed out his chest, he only reached their shoulders, which was very embarrassing.

“Clearing away an obstacle, of course.” Lin Ganzhi glanced sideways at the agent, his displeasure unconcealed.

The agent was so angry his lungs hurt. “You two!”

“What, want to fight?” Wenren Yi crossed her arms and looked over, her eyes full of provocation.

The agent’s face gradually turned the color of pig liver. “You just wait!”

With that, he quickly rushed towards the elevator.

    Damn, what a coward.

Lin Ganzhi stepped forward again and knocked on the door. “Sister Que Jin, he’s gone.”

There was a slight noise from inside the door. Five seconds later, a haggard-looking woman opened it. Even so, Que Jin still wore the same kind and gentle smile as when they first met. “I’m sorry, I’ve troubled you. Please come in first. I’ll just tidy up and then we can go.”

Lin Ganzhi and Wenren Yi entered. Que Jin’s home wasn’t as luxurious as they had imagined. Instead, it was a very cozy little apartment with a warm yellow sofa, a cloud-shaped coffee table, and a faint scent of camellia in the air.

“There’s not much in the fridge. This is freshly squeezed juice I ordered; it’s good for you.” Que Jin took out two bottles of juice from the refrigerator.

As she walked over, her legs gave way. Fortunately, Wenren Yi was close enough to catch her, preventing her from falling.

“Que Jin, you can’t go on like this,” Wenren Yi said with a frown.

Que Jin smiled, said thank you, and was about to turn around.

“Que Jin, let’s talk. In your current state, I’m worried something will happen if I take you out,” Wenren Yi said.

Que Jin stopped. When she turned back, the worried looks from Lin Ganzhi and Wenren Yi made her heart ache. Since graduating and drifting here, she hadn’t had any friends care for her like this.

Que Jin finally sat down. Before she could even speak, she propped her chin on her hands and started to cry.

Lin Ganzhi quickly handed her a tissue.

Wiping her tears, Que Jin said, “It’s not that I don’t want to lose weight, but I’ve already reached my limit. I’ve tried fasting for three days, and I’ve tried eating only cucumbers for a month, but besides my health getting worse and worse, my weight hasn’t changed at all.”

“Que Jin, I can tell you responsibly that your current weight is already on the thin side. You’re not a model; your profession is an actress. Actors can adjust their bodies according to their roles, not according to public opinion! Don’t be led astray by your agent. If this continues long-term, your body will really collapse,” Wenren Yi advised earnestly.

Having been in the industry for two lifetimes, Lin Ganzhi had seen too many talented people fall for various reasons. Some even chose the most extreme methods to lose weight.

Que Jin wiped her tears. How could she not know all this?

“Can’t you change agents?” Lin Ganzhi’s words were startling.

Que Jin stopped crying, shocked by Lin Ganzhi’s idea.

Lin Ganzhi continued, “Sister Que Jin, I remember your first agent wasn’t that person.”

After calming down, Que Jin said, “Yes, it wasn’t him at first. But my original agent had some friction with the company later on, and he even tried to poach me privately. But at that time, I felt the company had given me a great opportunity, so I refused. The boss…” Que Jin paused midway and looked at Lin Ganzhi.

Lin Ganzhi quickly clarified his position. “Sister Que Jin, don’t worry, I’m just a nobody at the company. Brother Zhang is my one and only god!” The agent, Zhang Dianhuai, was a ruthless character who meant what he said.

Que Jin was amused by Lin Ganzhi and couldn’t help but smile. Seeing this, Wenren Yi opened the fresh juice on the table and handed it to her.

    “Drink a little.”

Seeing Wenren Yi’s concerned gesture, the emotion in Que Jin’s eyes softened considerably. She obediently took it and took a small sip before continuing, “The boss promised to assign me a reliable agent from the company. At first, I thought it would be Brother Zhang, because his abilities are well-known throughout the entertainment industry. But in the end, the boss went back on his word and assigned me the current one. I heard he’s a distant relative of the boss. After he took over, he constantly interfered with my acting and pushed me to lose weight. And I don’t know what he said to the boss, but the boss also shifted his attention from my acting to my weight loss. Every time I go to see the boss, he scolds me for getting fat.”

“Damn it!” Lin Ganzhi and Wenren Yi cursed in unison.

“Sister Que Jin, although I can’t guarantee it, I’ll help you ask Brother Zhang to see if he can help you transfer to his team,” Lin Ganzhi said.

“It doesn’t have to be that much trouble. Que Jin, send me your company’s information. I’ll go back and have a word with my dad,” Wenren Yi said. As soon as she spoke, both of them stared at her.

To say something like that so casually, what kind of major connections hire was she!

“What, only that idiot is allowed to be a connections hire? For a connections hire of my level, people are lining up to curry favor!” Wenren Yi’s lips curved into a smile. Although she didn’t specify her background, it was strangely reassuring.

Lin Ganzhi finally said profoundly, “It’s truly my honor to have your WeChat. We must be friends for life!”

Wenren Yi was half-amused, half-annoyed. “Get lost. I should have told you my identity last time. Then you would have come out to play with me even without eating, right?”

Lin Ganzhi mumbled, feeling inexplicably guilty whenever something related to Yan Shengping was mentioned.

But Wenren Yi wasn’t done yet. She nudged Lin Ganzhi’s shoulder. “I say, was your husband watching you on the phone last time? I could feel his possessiveness even through the phone.”

    Possessiveness? Yan Shengping?

    How was that possible?

“If anyone’s possessive, it’s me towards him~” Lin Ganzhi tried hard to maintain his infatuated persona.

“Hmph, is that so?” The gossip in Wenren Yi’s eyes didn’t diminish.

Realizing Wenren Yi was trying to get information out of him, Lin Ganzhi refused to say another word.

The two of them took Que Jin to a restaurant for lunch before heading to Wenren Yi’s maternal grandfather’s house.

Wenren Yi’s grandfather lived in an old villa in the northern suburbs. It was his house before he went abroad. The red walls were covered with climbing ivy, and the roses by the fence were in full, vibrant bloom.

Wenren Yi got out of the car and pushed open the gate, with the other two following behind.

    “Grandpa!” Wenren Yi shouted.

An old man suddenly stood up from among the flowers, a straw hat on his head. “I knew it was you, little Wen. No one else pushes open my gate like that. Be careful next time, there are flowers all over it!”

Wenren Yi giggled. “I was just in a hurry to bring two friends to see you for a check-up.”

The old man grumbled a bit.

Lin Ganzhi and Que Jin quickly stepped forward and greeted him as “Elder.”

The old man was kind and gentle towards them. “Since you’re little Wen’s friends, just call me Grandpa Qin. Come on in, her grandmother is just brewing some flower tea.”

The group followed the old man inside.

Outside, it smelled of flowers, but inside, there was a strong medicinal aroma. Following Grandpa Qin around a corner and into a room, they found what looked like an enlarged traditional Chinese pharmacy.

“Now that I’m old, my patients all come to my home. Which of you two kids wants to go first?” Grandpa Qin asked with a smile.

Lin Ganzhi certainly let the lady go first.

Grandpa Qin’s medical skills were no joke. He just placed his hand on Que Jin’s wrist for a moment and could tell her menstrual cycle was irregular. “Child, you can always find work, but your body is with you for life. I’ll prescribe some medicine now, but when you go back, you must not only drink the medicine but also let your body regain its vitality. Eat when you should eat, otherwise, no amount of medicine I prescribe will work.”

Que Jin nodded. On the way here, Lin Ganzhi and Wenren Yi had been constantly consoling her, and she had more or less come to terms with it. At most, she would take on fewer acting roles in the future. At her age, she shouldn’t accept just anything; finding quality projects was the key.

When it was Lin Ganzhi’s turn, Grandpa Qin motioned for him to put his hand out.

Lin Ganzhi was taken aback. “Huh? Me too? Grandpa Qin, I’m here to get medicine for my husband.”

Wenren Yi said, “Hey, you should get a check-up too. It’s a good deal. So many people pull strings to see my grandfather.”

“Little Wen, don’t be arrogant,” Grandpa Qin chided.

The arrogant Wenren Yi instantly shrank like a quail.

Lin Ganzhi obediently placed his hand on the cushion, waiting for the old man to check his pulse. He was, however, a little nervous. After all, when an old Chinese doctor frowns, it can lead to three consecutive sleepless nights.

Grandpa Qin’s expression was normal at first, but then his brow suddenly furrowed.

Lin Ganzhi instantly wanted to slap himself! Serves you right for jinxing it! My luck is really rotten.

    “Your constitution, hmm…”

    Lin Ganzhi swallowed hard.

“Ganzhi, don’t let your hand shake. My grandpa is diagnosing you,” Wenren Yi said gloatingly from the side. She knew her grandfather all too well. A frown of this degree meant nothing serious, but it was a surefire way to scare a layman.

Don’t shake, don’t shake. The more Lin Ganzhi thought this, the more his hand trembled like he was fluffing cotton.

    “Have you been frightened recently?”

Frightened? Did Yan Shengping scaring him yesterday count? “I was scared yesterday,” Lin Ganzhi confessed honestly.

Grandpa Qin hummed. “It probably wasn’t yesterday’s incident.”

    He can even tell that!

    The pink-haired man was shocked!

“It’s probably from the last two months. Your autonomic nervous system is a bit disordered, and your qi and blood circulation are a bit chaotic. But it’s not a big problem now. Just rest more and don’t participate in overly strenuous exercise. I won’t prescribe any medicine. Child, tell me about your husband’s problem. Little Wen gave me a general idea, but you tell me in detail.” Grandpa Qin released his hand.

Lin Ganzhi’s feelings became somewhat complicated. So a traditional Chinese doctor could actually detect some of the physical changes after he transmigrated. Lin Ganzhi knew he needed to be more careful outside.

When it came to his boss’s problem, Lin Ganzhi became fully focused. “It would be best if he can be completely cured. If not, it’s fine to slowly nurse him back to health so it doesn’t get worse. At least so he can move about freely and no longer be restricted by his body.”

Cough, cough, cough, cough!” Wenren Yi and Que Jin turned their heads and coughed in unison. How could such an innocent-looking child be so bold?

Lin Ganzhi was confused. Why were they both coughing?

“Have you had marital relations recently?” Grandpa Qin, being a true professional, could ask this without batting an eye.

    Marital relations?

Lin Ganzhi’s face suddenly turned bright red. What did this have to do with a stomach problem?

“N-no,” Lin Ganzhi’s voice became as small as a mosquito’s buzz.

“Hmm, then there’s also a slight psychological issue.”

“Then what are his usual symptoms?”

Although confused, Lin Ganzhi continued, “He’s very weak, can’t eat any stimulating foods, and catches colds and fevers easily.”

Wenren Yi and Que Jin exchanged a look. Nourishing the stomach came with so many complications?

Grandpa Qin hummed and switched the hand he was holding. “Cold body constitution. Was he overworked before?”

“Mmm, it probably started in college. He only started resting a little recently.”

Cough, cough, cough, cough!” Wenren Yi choked on the flower tea she had just drunk.

Grandpa Qin gave his granddaughter a very disgusted look. “What’s with all the coughing in my pharmacy? If you have nothing better to do, take your friend for a walk in the garden. And don’t touch the new flowers I planted. You can pick some of the roses outside.”

With a few words, Grandpa Qin sent Wenren Yi and the others out.

Before leaving, Wenren Yi gave Lin Ganzhi an exceptionally complicated look. In her mind, Lin Ganzhi was no longer an ordinary person. He was a god!
