Chapter Index

“Ganzhi! There you are. Do you know how to play golf? Our first stop is golf, and then we’ll go fishing in the greenhouse on our back mountain,” Wenren Yi said, approaching them. She had changed into a simple sportswear, looking dashing with every move. She supported her grandmother with one arm as she spoke.

“Do you know how to play golf?” Lin Ganzhi first looked at Yan Shengping.

“Mm, I’ve learned,” Yan Shengping replied. In fact, for work, he had learned various social skills, and golf was one of the simpler ones.

Due to the weather, Wenren Yi chose indoor venues for their activities. Both golf and fishing were the grandfather’s favorite pastimes, but the grandmother enjoyed watching him play. At home, she would sit by his side on a sunny day while he fished, knitting shawls for the younger generation as Christmas gifts.

At the golf course, Lin Ganzhi automatically joined the “keep grandma company” team. He wasn’t interested in any ball sports. He would just watch Yan Shengping play and hand him things when needed. The key was that both grandfathers were very fond of Yan Shengping. His eloquence and knowledge were a bit wasted on someone like Lin Ganzhi, but they were perfect for chatting with the two seniors. Especially in a setting like a golf course, it was an excellent place for business talk. Before Lin Ganzhi could even process some of it, he saw Wenren’s grandfather and Grandpa Qin patting Yan Shengping’s shoulder as if they had found a treasure, their eyes filled with admiration.

They even seemed to have an urge to keep him there. Wenren’s grandfather, in particular, looked like he was about to offer Yan Shengping a job. Lin Ganzhi was used to the stay-at-home Yan Shengping and was seeing for the first time just how popular he was with the big shots. A person like him, even if his own company went bankrupt, would have plenty of people begging him to work for them. Plus, Yan Shengping loved working overtime; you could see him typing away in his study at ten at night. Which boss wouldn’t love such an ideal employee?

“Hey, hey, you’re staring! Didn’t you get enough of your husband last night!” Wenren Yi teased, her tone a little sour.

Lin Ganzhi leisurely took a sip of yogurt and said with a hint of pride, “You’re just jealous of me.”

    Damn! She really was.

She had never seen her grandfather like a young person her age so much. Wenren Yi was speechless at this moment.

The grandmother leaned back in her chair, knitting a sweater. Her hair was white, and she wore a pair of reading glasses. She didn’t say much, but her face wore a kind smile. Wenren Yi reached out and pulled the small blanket on her grandmother’s lap a little higher.

“That child, his name is Yan Shengping, right?” the old lady suddenly stopped her work and carefully studied Yan Shengping’s back.

“Mhm, Ganzhi’s husband,” Wenren Yi replied.

The old lady gently patted Wenren Yi’s hand and chided, “You child, it’s not like Grandma has amnesia. You already introduced him yesterday. He and Ganzhi look very good together. When are you going to find a girl to bring back for Grandma to see?”

When it came to this topic, Wenren Yi, like many young people, just laughed it off. Only Lin Ganzhi knew in his heart that it would be soon, but he wouldn’t say it. Hehe.

“If your little uncle had grown up, he would probably be this handsome,” the old lady said.

Wenren Yi’s expression dimmed a little, but seeing that her grandmother’s face didn’t show much pain and that she said it with a sense of nostalgia, without getting lost in her own world, Wenren Yi still gave a firm “mm-hmm.”

“I remember when I was in kindergarten, a lot of other kids wanted me to take them to see my little uncle.”

“Not only that,” the old lady reminisced, “when I used to clean out your little uncle’s schoolbag, you know how it has all those little pockets on the outside? As soon as I opened them, they’d be full of chocolates and cards from people at school. Your little uncle was the type to be secretly shy. He wouldn’t say anything on the surface, but he’d blush as soon as he got back to his room.”

Just listening to their descriptions, Lin Ganzhi found Wenren Yi’s little uncle very cute. It was such a pity.

Looking up, he saw that Yan Shengping’s forehead was a little sweaty after a few rounds. Lin Ganzhi grabbed a towel and some water, excused himself, and trotted over, looking particularly eager.

“Have some water first.” Lin Ganzhi unscrewed the bottle cap for Yan Shengping. After Yan Shengping finished drinking, he reached out to wipe his sweat, his eyes looking at Yan Shengping with such fervor that it almost made Yan Shengping break character on the spot. Who knew how long it took him to calm down last night, and now this again?

“Thanks.” Under the gossiping gazes of the two old men, Yan Shengping said gently, “Why did you run so fast? Are you tired?”

Lin Ganzhi shook his head, then looked up at Yan Shengping, as if he was the only person in his eyes. But what he was thinking was completely different from what he was showing: Boss, you’re exaggerating. It was just a few steps.

“We’ve been at this for over an hour, haven’t we? Little Yan, your body can handle some moderate exercise, but you can’t overdo it. We’ve had our fill too. How about we go fishing? We can eat what we catch right away. There’s a rest area there too, so you can go sleep if you get tired,” Grandpa Qin said.

“That’s right, I almost forgot Little Yan’s body needs to recuperate. I’ve had my fun too. By the way, Ganzhi, do you know how to fish? You can join us later,” the grandfather said.

“I’m not very good at fishing, but I can help grill the fish,” Lin Ganzhi said honestly.

“Oh right, you see, I even watched Yiyi and Ganzhi’s show. It’s just that the water in our fishpond is a bit deep, not suitable for you and Yiyi to go in and catch fish. We can only use rods. You two can help with the grilling later,” the grandfather laughed heartily.

Lin Ganzhi, standing next to Yan Shengping, broke into a sweat. What kind of impression did he and Wenren Yi leave on the elders?

After tidying up, they moved to the hot spring fishing ground on the back mountain of the Wenren residence. Looking at the nearly one-thousand-square-meter greenhouse, Lin Ganzhi could only say that poverty had limited his imagination too much.

Next to the fishpond was an outdoor kitchen. The servants had already prepared the grilling materials and tools, and a chubby foreign chef was there specifically to handle the live fish. Lin Ganzhi felt like he had just moved to a different spot to lounge around.

Since no fish had been caught yet, Lin Ganzhi sat next to Yan Shengping and played a game on mute. When he came across a character he wanted, he would give a look, and the god of luck next to him would extend his divine right hand and tap his screen a few times. A ten-pull with two five-stars!

Lin Ganzhi showed it to Wenren Yi, who was feigning sleep on a nearby lounge chair. A casual glance almost made her scream. She also played games and knew how hard it was to get a good pull from this card pool, let alone two five-stars in a ten-pull.

Lin Ganzhi gestured for her to be quiet, and Wenren Yi mouthed: “[How many pulls?]”

    Lin Ganzhi replied: “[First ten-pull.]”

“Holy crap?!” The quiet atmosphere was suddenly shattered by Wenren Yi’s exclamation.

The school of fish that had just gathered in the pond instantly scattered, much to the annoyance of the two grandfathers, who both glared at their boisterous granddaughter. Wenren Yi sheepishly promised it wouldn’t happen again and then sidled up to Lin Ganzhi once more.

She pointed at the single-mindedly fishing Yan Shengping, then at herself. Lin Ganzhi understood immediately.

He lowered his head and used technology to convey his demand: “[The seafood last time was delicious. I didn’t get enough.]”

It wasn’t that Wenren Yi was short on money for card pulls, but she had rarely seen a real-life god of luck. You couldn’t necessarily witness such a spectacle even if you paid for it.

“[One pull, and big sis will cover you for a year.]”

    Oho!

Lin Ganzhi’s eyes sparkled as he took Wenren Yi’s phone and looked at Yan Shengping again. Yan Shengping’s fishing rod dipped; a fish was on the hook. Lin Ganzhi quickly shut his mouth, not daring to disturb him at this critical moment. But then Yan Shengping held out his hand, gesturing for Lin Ganzhi to give him the phone.

After a moment’s hesitation, Lin Ganzhi handed it over. Feeling the different size, Yan Shengping glanced at it, then looked at Lin Ganzhi. Lin Ganzhi pointed at Wenren Yi, who was rubbing her hands together in prayer. Yan Shengping looked away. His strange skill had been turned into a business by Lin Ganzhi.

Yan Shengping held the fishing rod with one hand and tapped with the other. The moment the golden light appeared, he pulled hard, and a large fish, at least 2.5 kilograms, broke the surface of the water.

Both grandfathers gasped in amazement. Wenren Yi also got her phone back, satisfied. My god, three five-stars! A true king of luck!

Thus, Wenren Yi’s gaze towards Yan Shengping became filled with even more reverence.

With a fish caught, Lin Ganzhi no longer stayed by Yan Shengping’s side. He took the fish to the chef to be prepared, then placed it on the grill and started smoking it. Considering the three elders, Lin Ganzhi didn’t add much chili. He brushed a thin layer of oil on it and began to turn and roast it. As the fish slowly cooked, he started sprinkling sea salt on it.

“That little Ganzhi has some skills. This fish smells so fragrant!” the grandfather couldn’t help but praise.

“Yeah, I haven’t smelled this fragrance since I left the country. I’m going to eat a lot later,” Grandpa Qin echoed.

So, the two elders simultaneously looked at their main fisherman. The grandfather cleared his throat and said, “Little Yan, keep it up. Don’t get proud just because you caught one fish. I think you can be proud after you catch another three or four.”

“Alright, I’ll do my best,” Yan Shengping said, neither servile nor overbearing.

“Yan Shengping, a few more! One isn’t enough to eat!” Lin Ganzhi called out to his benefactor in a low voice.

Yan Shengping’s hand on the fishing rod tightened. He turned his head and asked, “Are two enough for you alone?”

Lin Ganzhi nodded excitedly, his cheeks flushed with excitement, and he blew a kiss to Yan Shengping from across the way.

“Okay, just wait. It’ll be quick.”

The two elders looked at the two kids, then at themselves, and almost threw their fishing rods down in frustration! Could the difference in treatment not be so obvious?

Yan Shengping was indeed highly efficient. In less than an hour, he had caught several large fish. Combined with what the two elders caught, the grandmother was worried they wouldn’t be able to finish it all.

Later, seeing the fighting spirit of her granddaughter and Lin Ganzhi as they ate, she immediately dismissed her worries. The two of them weren’t just hungry on the show; they could eat a lot in real life too. Two fish were devoured clean in their hands within half an hour.

The grandmother, who originally had no appetite, ended up eating twice as much as usual thanks to Lin Ganzhi’s excellent grilling skills, and her spirits improved considerably.

“Ganzhi, when will you come visit Grandma again?” Lin Ganzhi hadn’t even left, and the old lady was already planning his next visit.

Wenren Yi was a good friend of Lin Ganzhi’s, and the old lady was also very kind. Of course, Lin Ganzhi was willing to come again. After everything was settled, as long as the old lady didn’t mind, he could stay even longer than this time. “As long as Grandma doesn’t mind me, just give me a call whenever you miss me. Once my work over there is done for a bit, I’ll come over specifically to spend time with you.”

The old lady was overjoyed to hear this and held Lin Ganzhi’s hand, chattering for a long time. Wenren Yi also looked at Lin Ganzhi gratefully.

“You two have to come together next time, you can’t lie to Grandma,” the old lady said. The elderly get lonely, and having met two juniors she liked so much, she wanted them to spend more time with her.

Yan Shengping nodded in agreement, but Lin Ganzhi felt a little sad. The next time he came, his relationship with Yan Shengping might not be the same.

“I was wondering why no one was in the main house. Dad, Mom, you’re all here!” A middle-aged man who looked to be in his forties walked in from the entrance. He had a burly figure and a natural air of authority. His features vaguely resembled Wenren Yi’s, or rather, Wenren Yi resembled him.
