Chapter 73 – Justice Xiao Is Online!
“Hold him down for me!” The lead girl, despite wearing a miniskirt, was still impressively fierce and was close to catching up to Xiao Fang. Her sharp nails were about to scrape the back of his down jacket. In that critical moment, a black figure shot past everyone at high speed, grabbed Xiao Fang, and pulled him into a series of small alleys. The complex terrain was like her own backyard to her; she didn’t even need to slow down. Xiao Fang couldn’t help but wonder if his physical fitness was even worse than a girl’s.
“Run towards the main road! Don’t, don’t dally!” Xiao Fang directed as he ran, clutching the heavy bag of snacks. If he kept running, he might just collapse. The girl immediately adjusted their route, seemingly effortlessly dashing towards the main road.
After winding through a few alleys, Xiao Fang finally saw the light of the main road. He mustered all his strength and sprinted forward like he was in the final stretch of an 800-meter race in high school. In the midst of this exciting process, Xiao Fang accidentally connected the call to the police.
After a chase through several intersections, the gangster girls were out of breath. The lead girl panted heavily and said, “Catch that idiot! I’m going to kill him today!”
“Hello, this is the police station. Do you need assistance?”
Cars whizzed past the two groups on the road. The loud speakerphone voice brought the conflict to an immediate halt. It was as if a dividing line had been drawn between them. Xiao Fang smugly held up his phone. The others didn’t seem to react much, but the lead girl’s face turned extremely ugly.
“Let’s go!”
“But, we almost had him!” a woman behind her with heavy makeup said, clearly unwilling to give up.
The lead girl shot her a sideways glance. “Don’t forget my current status! Let’s go!”
As soon as she finished speaking, the group immediately turned and ran. Xiao Fang was suddenly confused. If they were so afraid of the police, why had they even run in the first place?
The person on the other end of the line hadn’t hung up yet. Xiao Fang glanced at Fei Yishan, who shook her head. This matter couldn’t be resolved so simply.
After explaining to the police officer for a while and proving that he hadn’t called out of boredom, the officer finally let him go. Xiao Fang scratched his head, hung up the phone, checked that his snacks weren’t messed up, and raised his hand to leave.
“Wait, I haven’t thanked you yet,” Fei Yishan called out to him. She hadn’t recognized him in his current disguise and was about to thank him for what had just happened.
Xiao Fang didn’t want to get too involved with her and waved his hand to show he didn’t need it. “No, no, I have to go home. Besides, you could have escaped on your own. I was actually the one who dragged you down.” Xiao Fang wished he could disappear on the spot.
Fei Yishan pondered for a moment behind him, finding his voice strangely familiar. Just as she was trying to place it, she saw him preparing to leave with a bag of snacks. Fei Yishan, at over 1.7 meters tall, wasn’t much shorter than Xiao Fang. Her long legs caught up to him in an instant, and she grabbed him tightly.
“What are you doing? I saved you! Is this how you repay your savior?” Xiao Fang was on the verge of losing the last of his dignity as an adult male.
But Fei Yishan now knew exactly who was standing in front of her. Her memory was good, even better than most people’s. Xiao Fang had become very popular in the last six months, so it was normal for him to go out in such a disguise.
“Xiao Fang, it’s you?”
Xiao Fang stopped struggling and sighed deeply. Since he had been recognized, there was no point in hiding anymore. He resignedly turned around, glanced at the crowd around them, and said helplessly, “This isn’t a good place to talk. Let’s find somewhere else first.” They couldn’t have a confrontation on the main road, or who knew what the news would say tomorrow.
No matter what, Xiao Fang had saved her. Fei Yishan wasn’t so unreasonable as to not recognize right from wrong. After a pause, she went with Xiao Fang to a… well, a hot pot restaurant. This one was more high-end, and the prices were relatively high, but for Xiao Fang, who was now earning the income of a B-list star, it was no longer a big problem. He booked a small private room, just right for two people. Only after the waitress had served all the dishes did Xiao Fang take off his sunglasses and mask, revealing a slightly flushed face. He had been suffocating while waiting for the food.
Xiao Fang added ingredients to the pot at an inhuman speed. President Fei wasn’t coming home for dinner today, so he had actually planned to have a hot pot meal before going back. It had been a month since he’d had his little darling, and he was dying for it. It was just best that his dining companion had changed.
“Let me tell you, I didn’t save you because I wanted to suck up to you. Even if it wasn’t you, I would have helped any girl being ganged up on,” Xiao Fang said, not wanting to show weakness in front of Fei Yishan. It would be too embarrassing for his old husband.
“I know. I owe you for this one. The hot pot is on me.” Fei Yishan spoke without hesitation. She would not shirk her responsibilities.
Xiao Fang gave her a strange look. This Fei Yishan wasn’t like the other members of the Fei family. She seemed to have a rational halo around her. Aside from the issue with her father, she seemed pretty normal overall.
Xiao Fang didn’t refuse. A debt for a debt, an age-old principle. So he began to deftly cook the ingredients, rolling them in the dipping sauce before popping them into his mouth to chew. Mm, this restaurant’s tripe was good, chewy and crisp.
“I don’t mean any harm,” Xiao Fang said as he ate, “but as a female university student, you shouldn’t provoke those kinds of people when you’re out alone. They’re lunatics, the kind who’ve lost their minds. You wouldn’t bite back at a mad dog, would you?”
Fei Yishan ate the cold dish she had ordered, occasionally fishing something out of the clear broth pot. She wasn’t offended by what Xiao Fang said and even replied, “I didn’t try to provoke them. They came looking for trouble themselves.”
“What do you mean?” Xiao Fang asked casually, not expecting Fei Yishan to actually answer him.
“The lead girl is from my university.”
“From your university?” Xiao Fang was stunned. Fei Yishan’s university was nationally renowned. He never thought there would be hooligans like that there.
“What’s so strange about that? People of all statuses are still people, and people are not all the same. She’s the famous Department Belle of her major. Well, she’s two-faced. She puts on one act in public and another behind people’s backs, though few have ever seen it. Her boyfriend is a well-known rich second generation, not a good guy either. After dating her for two months, he took a liking to another girl in our major. That girl is an honest person who got into this university from the countryside. She was even the top scholar in her county.” For some reason, Xiao Fang felt that Fei Yishan’s expression softened when she spoke of the other person, and there was even a hint of pride for her.
“Her family has financial difficulties. Several of her older sisters failed to get into university. She, a little bean sprout, gritted her teeth and made it in. But with that, she made an enemy of that idiot Department Belle. The Department Belle still acts all lovey-dovey with her boyfriend in public, but behind the scenes, she started bullying the other girl. Locking her in the bathroom, pouring foot-washing water on her bed, plagiarizing her thesis to humiliate her in front of the whole class, and even trying to take nude photos of her to post on the school forum. But I found out about that and stopped her.” As she spoke, Fei Yishan’s expression changed completely, a faint murderous intent in her eyes.
Xiao Fang was so angry he could feel his teeth itch. “Is that woman a psycho?!”
“She’s just an idiot, nothing more. Later, as you saw, they started targeting me. But I’m not easy to mess with. I gathered enough evidence of everything she did at school and exposed it. Now, many of the guys in the major are doubting whether this girl is as pure and innocent as she appears. So, she came for revenge during the holiday. I don’t really care. If she has the guts, she can chase me to my home. I’ll break her legs.” Fei Xiangnan was a man of his word, and Xiao Fang had no doubt that Fei Yishan was capable of doing it. This woman surpassed most men, whether in fighting ability or otherwise.
Xiao Fang picked up a large clump of fatty beef, passed it through his dipping sauce, and stuffed it into his mouth. School bullying was something he had seen too much of. The key was the solution. Calling the police could only solve the problem temporarily, not eradicate it completely. He had to think of another way. Looking at Fei Yishan, she seemed very eager to protect that girl.
“So, have you figured out how to protect her?”
Fei Yishan looked deeply at Xiao Fang. While everyone else was telling her how to protect herself, Xiao Fang had voiced her own thoughts. She had never mentioned her family background at school, and her classmates were all very worried about her situation. But she knew this was actually a small matter. The key was to stop Little Bean Sprout from suffering anymore. She couldn’t let her only be able to breathe freely when she was around. She had to be free. She still had three and a half years left; she couldn’t just let them be ruined.
“I’m thinking about it. It would be best to resolve it before the end of the spring break. Otherwise, I feel like that idiot is capable of doing something like squatting at the train station.”
Xiao Fang genuinely felt that this kind of person had too much time on their hands and was also infuriatingly hateful. Why would a perfectly fine girl be so sinister?
“How about this? Consider it the second time you owe me, but this time, a hot pot won’t be enough to settle it. You have to agree to one condition of mine,” Xiao Fang said with considerable confidence.
“You really have a way?” As long as the condition wasn’t too excessive, it was negotiable. But what kind of solution could there be?
“Do you agree or not?” Xiao Fang wanted to settle the condition first.
Fei Yishan thought for a moment. Trading a condition for Little Bean Sprout’s well-being wasn’t a bad deal, as long as she didn’t have to hide in her quilt and cry every day. “Fine, I agree.”
Decisive! Xiao Fang loved talking to people like this—straightforward. “The method is this: my side will help you deal with that girl. You can demand what level of consequence you want her to face, but the bare minimum is that she can’t bully that other girl next semester. What do you think?”
“Any level will do?” Fei Yishan emphasized the question.
Xiao Fang immediately became alert. He was no gangster! “It can’t be illegal!”
Fei Yishan let out a short laugh. In her eyes, Xiao Fang was, for the time being, clean, pure, not very scheming, and also a coward. How on earth did someone like this fall for that demon?
“Not illegal. Just make her apologize to Little Bean Sprout and clarify all those rumors.”
“Rumors?” Xiao Fang tilted his head.
At this, Fei Yishan’s mood quickly cooled again. “They said she was a prostitute, that she’d had an abortion. As for the rest… I won’t say more.” This semester had been the darkest time in Little Bean Sprout’s life.
Xiao Fang once again sucked in a cold breath. This was simply bestial! No, worse than a beast!
Thinking about what a girl had gone through in one semester, the righteousness-filled Xiao Fang almost swallowed his condition. “Don’t worry, next semester, all those rumors will be gone! I’ll make her apologize properly to your friend!”
