Chapter Index

When Shuang Yu opened his eyes, he was greeted by the sight of a magnificent, golden banquet hall.

He hadn’t possessed a physical body for a very long time and, for a moment, couldn’t get used to it.

“President Bai, aren’t you going to drink?”

A sweet, feminine voice sounded by his ear.

He looked over to see a beautiful, glamorous woman in a golden couture gown smiling at him, her gaze glancing intentionally at the champagne in his hand.

“I’ll give your invitation serious thought. Who knows, perhaps we really will have a chance to work together?”

Seeing his silence, the woman pressed on, dangling another lure.

“In that case… shall we toast to our happy collaboration?”

Shuang Yu hadn’t had time to receive the Vicious Ghost’s memories yet, so he could only bite the bullet and play along.

The woman didn’t answer, merely offering a faint smile as she raised her glass to clink with his.

    Clink—

The crystal-clear glasses met, sparkling under the lights.

Shuang Yu tilted his head back and drank the champagne, simultaneously noticing the flash of triumphant malice in the woman’s eyes.

Damn it, this woman is up to no good!

By the time he realized it, it was too late; a large gulp of champagne was already in his stomach.

“Excuse me, I need to use the restroom.”

Shuang Yu spoke hastily to the woman, his eyes not lingering on her for even a second. He placed his glass on a waiter’s tray and quickly turned to leave.

A flicker of confusion crossed the woman’s eyes as she watched him go. Normally, this idiot was like a dog that had seen a bone—impossible to shake off. Why was he acting today as if he had no interest in her at all?

Was he playing hard to get?

    So annoying.

Just looking at him was nauseating.

Today, she was going to utterly discredit this irritating, disgusting pest, Bai Shuangyu.

A vicious glint flashed in the woman’s eyes, and a meaningful smile played on her lips as she sat back to wait for the show to begin.

Meanwhile, Shuang Yu quickly entered the restroom. He sat on the toilet and, with a wave of his hand, summoned a black ebony token out of thin air.

He had been a Ghost Messenger for three hundred years.

In recent years, Vicious Ghosts and Resentful Spirits had been lingering in the three thousand worlds, causing trouble and making the Eighteen Levels of Hell as crowded as a tourist destination. This had drastically increased the workload for Ghost Messengers.

To deal with these malicious spirits, the Underworld Bureau had implemented a new policy. Ghost Messengers would travel back to the time when the spirits were alive, assume their identities, and help them fulfill their wishes to eliminate their resentment and allow them to reincarnate. This was intended to reduce the number of Vicious Ghosts.

It was a cushy job that countless Ghost Messengers fought over. As a newly promoted messenger, he had only secured this assignment because he was a chess buddy of King Kṣitigarbha.

To put it bluntly, he was a connection hire!

Following the Judge of the Underworld’s instructions, Shuang Yu infused his Ghost Power into the token. It began to glow, and a moment later, a robotic, child-like voice sounded in his mind.

[Activation complete… Greetings, dear Underworld Bureau Ghost Messenger No. 377, Shuang Yu. I am your support system, Xiao Ai. To help ghost messengers adapt to their new identities as quickly as possible, the mortal’s memories have been replaced. The original host’s surname has been retained, and your name will be used.]

[Lord Shuang Yu, would you like to absorb the Vicious Ghost’s memories?]

    “Yes.”

Shuang Yu replied, thinking that the part about keeping his name was quite considerate.

Soon, the original host’s memories flooded his mind.

The original host was a nouveau riche. Before the age of seventeen, his family had been dirt poor. That year, his father won nearly a hundred million in the lottery. His father then used the money to contract a mine, where he discovered gold. With money begetting money, the Bai family’s assets exceeded ten billion within three years.

Father Bai doted on his son, fully supporting him in whatever he did.

Unfortunately, the original host was a brainless, hopeless case who only knew how to eat, drink, and gamble. He was also completely obsessed with romance.

At a party arranged by a friend, he fell in love at first sight with an eighteenth-tier actress named Yan Qianqian and began to pursue her fervently.

The arrogant Yan Qianqian looked down on such a foolish nouveau riche and kept him on the hook as a backup lover while being kept by an underworld boss.

The tycoon was old and his health was failing.

Although he provided money and resources, he couldn’t satisfy her in bed.

So, she secretly hooked up with a rich second-generation heir.

He was a “little wolfdog” in bed and a “puppy-dog” out of it. Yan Qianqian was so smitten she fell for him, thinking she had found true love.

But if you play with fire, you’re going to get burned. The affair was discovered, but the boss didn’t know who the other man was.

To protect her lover, Yan Qianqian had no choice but to shift the blame onto the original host.

She had his disreputable friends encourage him to drug her, faking a situation where what’s done cannot be undone.

The scandal became public knowledge, and the boss’s fury was redirected to the original host. His father lost more than half of the family fortune just to save his life.

Yan Qianqian’s public persona also collapsed due to the incident, making a comeback impossible. She had thought this would move the rich heir to marry her, but he callously dumped her, saying he was tired of her.

In the end, Yan Qianqian’s dream of marrying into a wealthy family was shattered, and she could only marry the original host.

She decided to pick on the weak.

Unable to deal with the underworld boss or the rich heir, Yan Qianqian transferred all her hatred onto the original host.

After their marriage, the host was completely obedient to her, but she remained as disgusted with him as ever. Although they were husband and wife, she would recoil if he even tried to hold her hand.

After the wedding, the original host took over the family company, but due to his incompetence, it was constantly in decline.

Yan Qianqian seized the opportunity, colluding with his “friends” to trick him into making investments that were actually just schemes to drain his money.

Within five years, the massive family fortune was completely depleted. The Bai family went bankrupt, Father Bai fell ill and was hospitalized, and Yan Qianqian, having betrayed her benefactor, immediately filed for divorce. In a fit of rage, the destitute original host accidentally killed her and then, filled with remorse, committed suicide in despair.

Ordinarily, this ill-fated relationship should have ended there, but unexpectedly, Yan Qianqian was reborn.

She bitterly hated the original host for killing her and preventing her from enjoying her life. Upon her rebirth, her first priority was to change herself. She concealed her desire to marry into a wealthy family and flawlessly played the part of a strong, career-driven woman.

After changing her persona and using the golden finger of rebirth, her career soared. She smoothly hitched her wagon to Sheng Xiaoran, a powerful figure in City A.

While building her career, she didn’t forget her revenge against the original host. She once again approached him with ulterior motives.

The oblivious host fell for it again, pursuing Yan Qianqian passionately and walking step by step into the trap she had dug for him.

She guided him to a charity gala attended by the city’s elite and drugged him there.

The original host went into a frenzy at the banquet, causing the Bai family, already unable to break into high society due to their nouveau riche status, to be utterly humiliated.

And that was just the beginning. Afterward, Yan Qianqian continued to lead him on, making him fall deeper in love while setting various traps for him to fall into.

In the end, the original host’s fate was even more tragic than in his first life. The Bai family was saddled with billions in debt, and his father was imprisoned, where he was abused and committed suicide.

As for the original host, he was sold to a nightclub to pay off the debts. His tendons were cut, and he was made a public toilet slave until he died from disease.

“Are they both out of their minds?”

Shuang Yu, having absorbed the memories, shook his head, his eyes filled with an inability to comprehend mortals.

He couldn’t understand the original host’s obsession with romance.

He understood Yan Qianqian’s so-called hatred even less.

Every action has its consequences. Her fate was clearly the result of her own greed. Did shifting the blame to the original host somehow make her innocent?

[The most difficult thing in this world to fathom is human nature. The original host’s wish is to see Yan Qianqian utterly discredited and to be a filial son to his father in his remaining years. If there are no further questions, Xiao Ai will go offline for now. I wish you a speedy resolution of the original host’s resentment.]

Xiao Ai responded with an assenting tone, stating the original host’s wish.

“If I don’t solve my current problem, I’m afraid I’ll follow in the original host’s footsteps and be utterly discredited first!”

Shuang Yu looked down at his lower body and gave a helpless, bitter smile.

When he got back to the Underworld, he absolutely had to report this to his superiors. Could the timing of his arrival not be so damn dramatic?

Not a moment too soon or too late, but right at the critical point of being drugged. If he had arrived just ten minutes earlier, he wouldn’t have fallen for it.

Whatever. The priority now was to deal with the person Yan Qianqian had sent.

Forcing himself to endure the discomfort in his body, Shuang Yu quickly walked out of the restroom.
