Chapter Index

“Why are you yelling at me? It’s clearly you who’s useless… Sob, sob… Are you just unwilling to help me? My gland was damaged because of you, and you can’t even do this one small thing for me… And you still yell at me… You-you’re so mean…”

Ji Mian was frightened by his fierce expression and burst into tears, his voice full of grievance, as if Wei Yichen had bullied him.

Wei Yichen didn’t understand why his considerate omega had become like this. He wasn’t asking for much, just a word of concern, a greeting, and some understanding. Was that so difficult? His heart was bitter and pained, but Ji Mian’s line, “My gland was damaged because of you,” was his Achilles’ heel; he had no way to refute it. He had clearly done nothing wrong, yet he had to bow his head and admit fault.

Taking a deep breath, Wei Yichen’s tone was filled with helplessness as he raised his hand to wipe away his tears. “Mianmian, don’t cry. It’s my fault, I shouldn’t have yelled at you. Let’s go to the room to talk, okay? Don’t let outsiders see us like this…”

“Do you think I’m embarrassing you? Wei Yichen, I’m so disappointed in you. Acting like this really makes me feel that my choice was a mistake… Let’s separate and cool down for a few days. I don’t want to see you for a while!”

Ji Mian abruptly pushed him away and, sobbing, was about to leave.

    “Mianmian!”

Wei Yichen never imagined that just because he failed to satisfy him in one matter, he would suggest they separate and cool down. Was this… the prelude to a breakup? Panic-stricken, he quickly chased after him, grabbing his hand and pleading desperately.

“I was wrong, Mianmian, I was wrong. I don’t want to be separated from you. Please forgive me this once, okay…”

Ji Mian, his eyes and nose red from crying, sniffled and asked in a hoarse voice, “Then what about my father’s situation? Have you handled it?”

“I’m sorry… Your dad really did evade taxes, and the amount is too large. My father is furious. If he isn’t dealt with, my father’s authority as a Duke will be damaged… I really did my best. As long as your dad pays the back taxes and fines, he won’t have to go to jail…”

    Wei Yichen said hurriedly.

His Majesty granted fiefdoms to Princes and Dukes, and the taxes within those fiefdoms belonged to the nobles, not needing to be handed over to the Royal Family. Ji Weiheng’s tax evasion was cutting into his father’s cake. Originally, his father was going to punish Ji Weiheng severely to make an example of him. It was only because he had knelt in the living room all night that his father had shown mercy. The result might not be what he wanted, but he had truly done his best!

This useless fool! We’re going to be family, so why should my family have to pay taxes to the Duke!

The moment Ji Mian heard that 1.3 billion had to be handed over, his face changed instantly.

“1.3 billion! How could our family possibly afford that? Sob, sob… You must not have tried your best. How can your family be so mercenary? We’re lovers, can’t you just turn a blind eye! You-you’re really too much. You don’t care about me at all. I don’t want to see you. Go away, and don’t you dare follow me, or-or I’ll die right in front of you!”

He angrily pushed Wei Yichen away, threatened him, and then ran off, sobbing.

    “Mianmian, Mianmian…”

Wei Yichen was frantic, but because of his threat, he didn’t dare to chase after him. In the end, he could only return to his room like a stray dog.

The onlookers, Shi Shu and Shi Heng, exchanged a glance and shook their heads with pity. “A simp, simping until he has nothing left.”

“I just don’t get it. How could I have ever considered Wei Yichen my mortal enemy? With his EQ and IQ, I feel anxious for him… He has so much power, and the truth is just one investigation away, yet he lets that scheming bitch take advantage…”

Shi Shu shook her head, feeling that considering Wei Yichen her rival was the biggest dark spot in her life’s history.

“I gave him the chance, but he didn’t seize it. Is that my fault? He didn’t investigate before, and he won’t have much chance to find out the truth in the future.”

Shi Heng sneered, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. The prey he had set his sights on wouldn’t be like Wei Yichen, stupid enough to give others a chance to compete!

[Ding, Vicious Ghost’s Resentment -5. Current resentment: 70.]

The resentment notification from Xiao Ai sounded in Shuang Yu’s mind.

“Xiao Ai, do you think there’s any chance they’ll get back together?”

Shuang Yu asked with a grin.

[Well, without Shi Shu meddling, Ji Mian certainly wouldn’t let go of this wealthy backer. But now that Wei Yichen isn’t his only option, he’ll probably be abandoned soon.]

    Xiao Ai analyzed calmly.

“People are good at being self-righteous. They always think they have the upper hand, that they’re the skilled hunter. But they don’t realize that the best hunters often appear in the form of prey.”

A cold smile crossed Shuang Yu’s lips as he laughed at Ji Mian’s self-righteousness. He had already guessed his fate but had no intention of giving him any hints. Insatiable greed knows no bounds. People always have to pay for their choices!

After packing his textbook and coming out of his room, only Shi Heng was left in the living room. It was obvious that Shi Shu wouldn’t miss this opportunity to steal someone’s love and must have gone to find the desperately-in-need-of-comfort Ji Mian.

“Yu, we chose the same elective class. Let’s walk together.”

Afraid he would leave first, Shi Heng hurriedly put the bowls in the dishwasher and chased after him.

“No rush, there’s still some time. I can wait for you.”

“Some classmates invited me to play ball this afternoon. Want to come? It’s less awkward with someone I know. Come with me.”

The two of them left the dormitory, chatting and laughing.

In his room, Wei Yichen’s mind was in turmoil. He was more exhausted than ever, both mentally and physically. He dialed Ji Mian’s number over and over, only to be met with the message that the call could not be connected. He had also been blocked on his messaging app. He couldn’t contact his Mianmian. Flustered, helpless, anxious, heartbroken… all sorts of emotions tangled together, and Wei Yichen eventually fell into a drowsy sleep.

The nightmare that hadn’t troubled him for a long time appeared once again. He was back in that dilapidated factory. The air was filled with the smell of damp mold. The kidnappers were drinking and making merry outside. He trembled, tied up in a corner, his eyes filled with fear.

A rustling sound came, and a little omega whose face he couldn’t see clearly crawled out from a doggy door.

    “Mmmph, mmmph…”

With his mouth taped shut, he couldn’t speak, so he could only struggle frantically, his eyes filled with worry. Why are you here? Go, quick, don’t mind me.

“Brother, don’t be afraid, I’m here to save you. Shh, they haven’t found me. I’ll get you out of here.”

The little omega untied him, removed the tape from his mouth, and tightly held his hand, crawling out of the doggy door.

Outside, a drunken kidnapper came out to urinate and happened to see the two of them crawling out.

    “Brother, run!”

The little omega screamed and pulled him into a frantic run.

“Damn it, that noble ran away! Stop drinking, hurry and chase them!”

The inferior Alpha shouted and gave chase.

Seeing the pursuers getting closer and closer, a look of determination flashed in the little omega’s eyes. He pulled him into a patch of grass to hide, then piously kissed his sweaty forehead and said seriously, “Brother, don’t be afraid, I’ll protect you. I’m going to lead them away now. You run by yourself. My dad is already on his way. Find them, then bring them back to save me. I’ll definitely be okay, trust me. We both have to live. I still want to marry you when I grow up!”

He watched the little omega’s back, his eyes filled with despair. He wanted to scream frantically, Don’t go, you’ll get hurt, it’s not worth it for me, but he could do nothing but watch helplessly as he was caught by the kidnappers.

“You damn bastard, you ruined our grand plan! Go to hell!”

The kidnapper lifted the small omega by the neck and cursed furiously.

    “Save me… Brother, save me…”

The little omega struggled frantically, his bloodied and bruised face looking towards the patch of grass where he was hiding. The kidnapper, holding a knife, grinned menacingly and plunged it forcefully into the back of his neck.

Blood splattered all over Wei Yichen’s face.
